I have a question for someone...anyone who can answer...

I am having trouble eating since my last fill...and to think it was only my second fill ( I am at approx. 5.5 cc in a 10 cc band)

...I have tried everything I can think of... even most Protein shakes are too much in the mornings.

Any suggestions???

Hi smilin_apple,

Sorry for such a tardy reply. I have run into the same thing. I just had a fill last week and for the first three days, I could not do anything before 11:00 except tiny sips and those had to spaced out with several minutes between. Day four I was able to do some Soup in the evening and some refried Beans with piacante to thin them at about 7 pm. On day five I made an amazing discovery...If I have a SF popsicle, I can eat a little something for about 15 minutes to follow. I deduced that my stomach is swollen around the band (happens every time I get a fill and happened for three days following surgery). It took a bit for me to get it, but the cool from the popsicle gives some temporary relief of the swelling. It is usually enough time to get in a Protein Drink or if I crave hard food - cheese, Beans or cottage cheese.< /p>

Right now having a Protein Drink called nectar - Syntrax brand (Search Results - VitaminShoppe.com) very fruity and tastes really good (over ice helps it go down) and aspertame free. Comes in several flavors, just thought I would share

I hope it helps!

Cheers,

Mary

Hi all,

Sorry to be off for a while. I had my first plateau and I did not handle it the best. I kept gaining and losing the same 2 lbs for about a month. Finally a fill seems to have broken it.

Funny thing, I thought I had dealt with my head issues. I started to get tight the day before my follow up appointment (I had no intention of getting a fill). Then the day of the appointment, I just woke up in a bad mood. Then the office kept me waiting which gave rise to a worsening mood. The PA talked me into a fill, I stressed that it needed to be tiny (remembering the last one that was .4 ml made me miserable for quite some time). Then the PA did not even bother to read my chart to see I have a tilted port so my fills have to be under floro (she prepared to do it without, which I quickly corrected). Well we get in and I am this new PAs first tilted port fill ever (can you say guinea pig?). She did deaden the area (usually I don't have this done) and man am I glad she did. Finally after trying for several minutes and failing another PA had to get the needle into the port and things progressed fine. I do wait for a half hour in the waiting area sipping drink. Unfortunatly I got a little ambitious and took too big a drink and PBd...ugh. Then I had my PT and was in a bad mood, usually my training remedies that, but not this time. I usually have between 32 & 40 oz of Water during training (very imporant to hydrate during to help the muscles). To my dismay I had about 2 oz of Protein drink and 2 oz of Water, both of which I PBd on...Ugh. I was miserable. Finally, after training, I called my little brother. I was a littl mental and needed his wisedom to talk me down. He discussed that 40 years of habits don't change in six months and that I was once again having to renegotiate my relationship with food. I cried, talked with him and realized the wisdom in his words. It still took a couple of days to feel better, but I am happy to say that it feels like I have made some more headway. I hopefully will look forward to the fills, instead of dreading them. This one in particular broke my plateau. I am just a few lbs away from twoterville - one of my major goals. It feels good to be on the cusp of this monumentous goal.

Cheers all!

Mary

Today is a day of days. I have finally broken the 300 mark. I stepped, with fear, upon the scale today and I am at 299. I have been anxiously awaiting this day. Come Monday, my trainer will take my measurements again and I will get to know what the scale lbs. represent (fat loss vs muscle gain).

Anyway, tomorrow will be my seventh month of being banded and I have rid myself of 93.5 lbs, I am very close to being half way to goal as well. And have arrived in twoterville.

I am soooo happy to be here :w00t::thumbup::ohmy::present::tt2::smile:

Cheers,

Mary

CONGRATS Mary!!!! Awesome job. You must feel wonderful. I'm so glad that this thread exists as I am above 50 BMI myself....UGH!!!! I'm looking forward to being part of this thread. I'm new to this whole process too. Had my first visit at the Doc's last week and they say I'm looking at 4-6 months and surgery will happen....YEAH!! I've been started on a diet and they gave me 4 guidelines to follow. One involves cutting my caffeine intake from 10 cups to 4. Which, by the way, I did, but had a severe headache two days later for the whole day and just felt horrible. I'm fine now. I've now completed my first week of my supervised diet. I have to say that I am finding I have more energy.

I know, however, that I will have to deal with "head" issues as I hear others put it. I'm am an emotional eater so need to work on that. Right now I am taking it day by day. I usually snack at night, but my Dr's. office stopped that too. The first night I found myself drinking all of my Water late in the evening and being on this website chatting to help get me through. The hubby was upstairs making popcorn and I could smell it.

Kudos to the person who started this thread. What a great idea!!

Hi everyone! I just stumbled upon this thread and thought I'd join in.

My BMI is right around 50-51...so, I suppose I should belong to this thread. Anyway, I am 20 and hoping to have surgery this summer (Bariatric Center of Kansas City--Dr. Hohen)...if I jump through enough hoops. Hoops aren't new to anyone as most of you know, I'm sure. Being a college student in Springfield (roughly 3 hrs from home, things get complicated). The latest hoop involves the time of my surgery. The psychologist I'm seeing wants me to be home for 6-weeks after surgery...and I won't be finished with my 6-month supervised diet until late June. Then, if I allow up to 30 days for insurance approval, that puts me into August...thus, the psychologist wants to push surgery back until Christmas break...the problem with that is that the break isn't 6-weeks long...so I'm not sure what is going through his mind. Anyway, I'm sure I'm rambling...so I won't bore those of you who are reading

I look forward to meeting all of you in this thread and congrats to those of you who already had surgery and have lost fabulous amounts of weight! :smile2:

Lauren

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
