I had my surgery on Monday and I think the gas pain is getting worse each day. The pain in my left shoulder is unbearable sometimes. If I take a deep breath, cough, hiccup or move in certain ways, I sometimes let out a yelp. I walk a ton and have tried a heating pad. Any other suggestions or am I going to just have to keep waiting for it to work it's way out???

Hi there, I also had surgery on the 7th and have felt NO gas pains, I almost thought they didnt use any as I have had other surgeries in the past and know about the unbearable pain. My experience has been that you just have to ride it out and it does eventually go away....sorry to hear you are in pain. I hope it goes away soon. other than that, how do you feel? I feel fantastic!! I am walking my son to school and eating Jello and having a hard time doing 3 shakes a day plus the Water, so I opted for the water intake, how about you?

If it wasn't for the gas I would feel awesome! Very little pain in the tummy. I have absolutely no hunger yet. I am pretty much forcing the 3 shakes down. It takes me about an hour to drink one. Other then that I sip Water all day and have had a couple of sugar free popsicles. I'm totally happy with my decision to do this, I just wish this shoulder pain would go away. It's awful!

I still have the shoulder pain. It comes and goes. I do not think it is gas. I think it is pain from nerves damaged in the operation. Just my thinking. Donna

My surgery was on the 7th as well. Weird, but the gas pains started YESTERDAY and they are exactly as you describe. I hadn't had any gas at all but when I switched from my liquid vicodin to regular tylenol they showed up. Very painful in the shoulder and even in my neck. Couldn't even take a deep breath. I flapped my arms like a chicken (saw that advice in sereral places on this board). I asked my nurse and she said to hold a pillow to my stomach and roll around on the floor. I'm also trying to do a lot of walking. This morning I feel much better! It's early yet, so we'll see how things go the rest of the day. Hope you are feeling better soon.

I too had surgery on Monday. At first I was fine only a little soreness at port site. I even thought to myself if this was it then this lap-band would be a breeze. I think I might have spoken a little to soon. As soon as I was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday the gas pains simply engulfed my body. My neck, back, and stomach are aching terriblly. I've tried walking, sitting up, taking gas-x, MOM, and tea. It's starting to come out but I still cannot burp yet. As far as the Protein Drinks, I can't get one down yet. I'm still having 2 oz of Protein at a time. I feel uncomfortably full. I am a little tight. Should I be concernd? I'm seeing my surgeon tomorrow. How are you feeling?

I was banded Friday the 4th and the gas pain is terrible. Also I'm getting sharp pain near the port (I assume) whenever I get up. I was hoping to bounce back much quicker, but it does at least seem to get marginally better each day.

I'm going to try to tips above for getting it out. Yesterday I went out, twice and getting in and out of my car seemed to net me a couple of very deep, much needed burps. I feel like I have one rouge bubble in my left shoulder now, if only I could get it out.

Sometimes I feel like I have to burp and then I just get hard pain in my sternum and nothing comes out. :-(

I don't think this is gastric gas pain. I think it's just in your body cavity and has to work it's way out through your tissue. hence the neck and shoulder pain, because it rises.

I had surgery 10 days ago and the first two days the pain in my shoulder was so painful. I got my husband to give me a good massage and it really helped. I came back to work after 7 days and I brought the heating pad and Ive used it everyday. Maybe trying taking a hot shower or using bengay on your shoulder. Good luck it does get better. By the way I had my first mushy yesterdayand it was so good. Never thought cream of wheat would be so good. Ive now lost 28 pounds all together including my 16 preop weight loss. Good luck to all!

Try Gas X or Mylocon drops for the gas pain. Also your diagphram was punctured, and the remedial nerve may have been hit, that too causes spasms and pain. It will go away.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water. Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
