missed the port

Recommended Posts

Well Rich went in yesterday to see why he has no restriction after having a fill on 2/1/05 of 6cc in a 10 cc band. He had no restriction what so ever. Well the Doc. Missed the port. He thinks he got into it, but the saline must of went off into the side. I noticed on the first fill he couldn't draw anything back, but didn't say anything-next time I will. Yesterday they got 4cc in and could draw it back, so they knew they were in. Rich now knows whai I am talking about when I say I have restriction.

Larae, I just found out today that one of my previous 3 fills missed the port, too. And it was done by a radiologist under flouro!!! Go figure...

Now this is just a thought..

I would think that if the person or place that missed the port bills you for that fill that you never got should they not also credit you back that payment you made for a that fill.

Very odd they missed the port under flouro..

When they did the fills inder fluoro did you not see the needles in the port, and see the barium flowing through at a much slower pace as he did the fill?

Nope! I had all my previous fills in the radiology dept. at the hospital with a radiologist. They never gave a fill with a barium swallow, just used the flouro to find the port. I watched every fill on screen and they all looked like they entered the port, but what do I know? The only time I had barium was for an upper GI. I was supposed to have a fill the same day, but the radiologist claimed to not be able to see the port due to the barium being in the way! I had to go back the next day for the fill. I'm so glad I won't have to see these idiots anymore, LOL!!!

Mary, I would love to get my money back but I would be willing to bet it would be next to impossible. Which radiologist would have to pay me back? The hosp. recently refunded me approx. $150 for overcharges on my insurance co-pay. I was lucky to get that much!

That is horrible but I know any type of refund is a blessing. There should be something written on that I will have to bring that up next time I go in what does my Dr. think of it. He might think I fell of somekind of wagon.

Our surgeon does not do the fills under fluro-and neither one of us have had a barium swallow. I'm thinking our fills are still under the 90 day global for surgery. Good thing I work in medical billing and know these kind of things-otherwise I would have not thought anything of getting billed for it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
