Hi everyone my name is Geri and I have been watching the posts on the 50 and older. Hope you don't mind if I join the group. My weight loss is slowing down and I need some encouragement. This seems to be the place.

75 lbs lost? Way to go! I am close to making my decision about the band. People like you are an inspiration. Be patient, you'll get there---and promise me, you'll tell me the same when I am where you are!

I agree, Gerio, this is the place for support and encouragement. Isn't it great to have others to talk with and share our concerns and issues.

I am just banded and started that journey. thanks to all for giving me the info and incentive to have made this choice and make myself a healthier person

Wowee wow! 75 lbs lost- you are doing well. The problem with losing weight is the body does as it pleases! And it takes what it takes. Annoying but hang in there.

Good news to report from me. Even though I've only lost 20lbs, my blood pressure this morning was 125/74. I am thrilled! My dad died of a stroke and this was my main reason for getting the surgery.

I read that high blood pressure is worse for you than smoking! Yikes! So I am thrilled with this reading. I take medication but often my BP was 150/80 or so.

Also I got the surgery to avoid diabetes Type II which my dad also got and never did one thing to make it better. Before he died, the doctors were talking about cutting his feet off because they had gangeren (sp?). I was horrifed and I never want my partner to have to make a decision like that for me.

So far I have avoided sugar for the most part but just couldn't get this darn weight off. The band will help with that.

My dad was a stubborn man and so am I sometimes but I realized I need to learn from his misery and make my life better than his. There is good stubborn and there is stupid stubborn- I'm aiming to be good stubborn and using it to get rid of this weight finally.

Just a few thoughts on this beautiful Colorado morning!

Love and best to all the nifty fifties;:biggrin2:

Sadie

Welcome to anyone that's new! This 50's thread is a great thread and we love how we all support each other.

I need to look for those calcium chews in the other kind of Calcium. I hardly ever get to Rite Aide, but it will be a good time to go since I am out of the Walmart ones. I never even thought to look to see which kind of calcium they had. I stopped taking the calcium horse pills because they were just too hard to get down.

Hey does anyone know about this buddy list? I mean it's nice to have people on your friends list, but does it do anything? I am just wondering why do we list our friends?:)

On the buddy list / freinds - the only thing it does - is put a plus mark by the names when you are on the home page looling to who's online. You know the section I am talking about - That's the only thing i can see that makes any kind of diff..

Your profile page is now sorta like a myspace page - you can add comments - show your friends - your pic's - next thing they will do is make it so you can add music and graphic :) - and will will look just like a myspace page for for lapband:tongue:

Hey, I have to go away for a while. I've got shoulder problems and carpel tunnel so my doctor convinced me to go cold turkey on all non-work computer use. I should be back by summer, I think. Assuming the PT works, of course. And no matter what, I'll be back in the Fall right before I get my band. Have fun without me, gals!

Hello Indio Girl!

I am checkinin. OK ad my first fill this week. Am down bout 30 pounds since Feb 9 and working out like a fiend. I did not feel like I needed to be on liquids for a week after this fill so I did try cottage cheese ad some applesauce today and so far so good.

Dr. Bobby and the group were terrific and all is well for now. I am kind of afraid to eat real food so maybe soft through the middle of next week.

I did take some real pills today without breaking them open and they even went down and this is what I was nervous about because that Vitamin B is NASTY.

I did take some real pills today without breaking them open and they even went down and this is what I was nervous about because that Vitamin B is NASTY.

I was there on Wed too - what time was your appointment - mine was 9 a.m. - it was my 2 month ck in - I didn't/don't need a fill but got my blood work done and he took some pictures of me and asked if I would come to a seminar and be an example fof what you can accomplish with the lapband..

I thought of you when I was there and then said ya' she hasn't posted recently - I was going to email you -but just hadn't gotten around to it - you know how that goes

I am bad - i don't follow his rules about going back to post op diet for 4 weeks (did though the 1st fill cuz I was nervous)- I usually have Soups for 1 or 2 days then mushie/soft - I really don't eat reg food that much - I usually eat fish every night with 1/2 c rice and some veggies - I may have beef once a week and ck every couple of weeks -my daily foods would be consider mushie to soft - except when I go out to lunch and have a taco - I would consider that more regular than soft or mushie.

Whens your next appt - mine 5/28 @ 10:15... I love his new office it was the 1st time I had been there - infact I didn't know they had moved :rolleyes2: I knew they were looking into it but - thought they would have sent a mailing letting us know.

Are you going to the support group on 4/2 - I think I am - turly I like lbt better as it's open 24/7 and I don't have to drive anywhere - I went to the 1st one didn't go last month - but will give it another try...

I got a trainer a couple of weeks ago - I love him - yesterday he worked my butt off -and my legs are sore today...

I only have to take Atenenol and its tiny - but I don't like the chewable vitamins that much - I got some petite calicum pills and I can take them with no problem - but one thing I have noticed is I can't swallow pills like I use to - I am thinking about changing to 1 a days - cuz I think they are small - I am bad on the vitiman issue period - it will be interesting to see what my blood work shows.

My 1st fill I felt right away - could only eat 1/2 cup of yogurt - but it loosened up after about 2 weeks - my 2nd fill took a bit to settle in but it was excellent - when I got my 3rd it was too much so he had to take out .08 of the 1 cc he had added - so right now I'm at my sweet spot:biggrin:

Hi Gang! I've been reading all the posts trying to catch up. Welcome to all the newbies & best wishes to those scheduled for surgery.

Janet & Denise! You guys are doing great & both of you are so close to goal. I appreciate you sharing your journey & experience so much. Keep up the good work.

I'm 11 weeks out & got my 2nd fill a week ago. I'm having a little bit of a problem with ME! I do feel the difference this time which makes me happy. Before this fill I had no restriction & found my old habits returning; eating too fast, big bites, not chewing well. I'd fix my portion & sometimes gobbled it. Now, I've fixing my portion, trying to chew well & slowing down but I'm eating past the satisfied place because...I want the food....I'm eating too much because I'm really full, but not stopping. My mind knows this is what I wanted....restriction & being able to eat less, but my head hasn't caught up with the "plan" yet. So I'm going to take the weekend to really work on it.

Nice to be here!

Carol

Carol - this is a process - and some days I still feel that way - oh come on band just one more bite - I want that one more bite - yes I am full but i want to taste that food - I want to eat..

That's why I am always saying that I don't want to be so tight that I can only eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food per meal - Mentally I can't handle it - to me you can't live on that small about of food it's not healthy.

I have sat and thought are you really hungry or do you just want to eat and it's usually I just want to eat - and you will find out - once you have restriction that - that one more bite is going to cause you to pb - it's never the 1st or second bite but that 3rd or 4th that I have eaten too fast - not chewed or over eaten that will come back up and after that you don't want to eat.

It takes time - it takes pratice - we are learning a whole new style of eating and it's not going to happen over night - i am 8 months out and I don't alway listen to my body - i will still try and take that one more bite - but the pain/discomfort afterwards isn't worth it... But I still try - right now as i type I have had 2 bites of my dinner and have a ping pong ball in my tummy - so I will be patient and let it past then try another bite - cuz I was hungry and ate the first 2 bites too fast...

So don't feel like the lone ranger - we totally get what you are going through - but I think it's GREAT GREAT GREAT that you are doing the head work to find out why - this whole process is really about the head work cuz that truly where our problems lies - jmho

Boy that's good to hear. I'm doing better with slowing down & chewing, since my band has tightened up a few times & scared the daylights out of me. I need to prepare my portions a little smaller because I really have a problem leaving anything on the plate when it's already a fraction of what I used to eat. Oh, the head games.

Thanks so much! Great response & I'll slow down and enjoy the learning experience.

Carol

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
