Orea: I'm praying that God will reveal himself and guide your husband to that very special job he has picked out for your DH. I know it's hard when it's happening to you, but God does have it under control.

I'm glad you are recovering quickly. The weight will start to come off again, give your body time to readjust.

Hi WVgirl: Welcome to the sight. My philosophy is, if you're losing weight then things are good. You're not gaining and you will always eat the way you are now.

If you want to make sure you're eating like you should, count your calories and see what you are eating. Are you getting you 70-90 gms of protien per day? That was the most important aspect for me. With the Protein, I feel full, without, I am hungry.

Good Luck,

Susan

WVgirl - Math is not my strongest talent, but a quick figuring tells me your average loss over the last 8-9 months is a little over 5 pounds a month. I just saw my doctor for a tiny fill on Wednesday. Since my last fill I have been losing at a little less than that (4+ pounds a month). The PA said that is fine - anything in the range of 1-2 pounds a week is a good loss. Losing more slowly can be frustrating (esp since several people on this thread lose faster than that!), but you have to look at the whole picture. You will lose over 52 pounds in a year at 1+ pound a week. Keep following the rules, make sure you are getting the necessary Protein. Track your intake to make sure you are within the calorie range you should be in (most docs recommend between 800-1100 a day with a bump up for a day every once in a while - this reassures the body it is not starving and does not need to hold on to every last drop of ugly fat). While tracking calories, be sure to track your protein, too. You can find the pouch test by searching for pouch test on google. Lots of folks have found that helpful in getting back on track if they have lost their way. But above all - don't worry if you are not losing as fast as you would like (I personally would like to lose 5 pounds or more every WEEK! - not going to happen...) Your doctor should be applauding your success not making you feel guilty about losing at a rate that is perfectly acceptable and actually recommended by the companies that make the bands. We are not in a race, honey, and we are headed in the right direction.

Hooray for us!

Just a long overdue update.

I had my first fill (3cc) little over 2 weeks ago.

Virtually NO restriction (unless I forget and guzzle Water after a satisfying bout of gardening)

I'm losing weight at a comfortable weight - but on primarily on will-power.

My next appt for check-up and a probable fill is early September.

I'd like to move the fill forward a bit -

How soon is too soon?

I'm planning a wandering trip to Lake Superior in mid-July and don't want to be tempted by treats along the way.

Will Power is great - but I need the extra help of the band!

Elayne, I had the same experience. First fill was 3cc and not much restriction, if any. My doc sets fills about a month apart for the first 3, and will do them closer if necessary. She wants you to give the fill time to settle in, swelling go down, etc., but they will go in 2 weeks if really necessary. My 2nd fill was after 1 month, another 2cc, and just a bit more restriction. The 3rd fill, after 3 weeks, was 1 cc. and was great. That carried me through till last Wed. The PA gave me just .5cc, and I am perfect (restriction-wise, that is). I feel great, love my band, and we are working perfectly together. I have an appointment for 12 weeks from now. It remains to be seen if I will need another fill, but they want me to come in and do the followup thing.

I would call the doctor's office and ask if you can get a fill a week or so before your trip. Don't do this too close to leaving town, as you may have a problem getting in somewhere to have some taken out if you are too tight.

Lake Superior area is my favorite place in all the world. I grew up on the North Shore (transplanted as a kid from Kentucky - also beautiful!). I hope you have a great trip and wonderful weather. Take a light jacket and rain gear, though - summer weather can be cool and rainy sometimes. My friend in Duluth wrote on Facebook this morning they had frost last night, 80's predicted for next week! Lake Superior weather is fickle... Have fun!

Elayne, in the beginning I got fills 2 weeks apart. I think my first 3 were that way, then I had some restriction and went a little longer. Sept seems a long time to wait, especially if you aren't feeling much restriction.

With the 5 day pouch test you do 2 days Liquid Protein, 2 days soft Protein, things like tuna, then one day hard protein like chicken. No carbs.

Glad everyone is still happy with their band.

I am loving the sleeve. It's so great never to think about food anymore.

My dad died unexpectedly while I was in Arizona visiting him. Normally, I would really be doing some emotional eating but I haven't . When they remove that hormone

with the sleeve, it really is true that it takes away the appetite. I just love it.

I have lost all the weight Igainded back when I had to have most of my fill removed.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. You were a devoted daughter.

Yeah, my husband is on a liquid diet for Gastric bypass on the 17th. I tried to stay on it with him , but I need to eat at least once a day because I am getting hungry. I must say I am doing much better staying on track since I don't have to cook. I get a fill on thursday.

:wub:Hello, All!

Am celebrating my two-week anniversary of banding here in the glamorous Garden State! Feel okay. Took a week off then worked 1/days for three days. Some days I feel very high energy, others not so much. have only had one bad experieince so far - rice! Can't do it. Just forgot and took a few forkfuls. Not sick, just VERY uncomfortable and full. Lesson learned. Tried new Special K crackers - 19 equal 90 calories- with some cheese for a snack. Pretty good and crispy.

Hoping to be able to go swimming soon. Pants feeling a bit loose...

Looking forward to less of me,

Maureen

Congrats Maureen! I'm in the Poconos. So almost a neighbor. I'm impressed that you get rice already. I was banded June 1, this past Monday but I have to stay with liquids for two weeks AGAIN, thank you very much. Although not a real issue because not hungry yet anyway.

I'm hoping when I go for follow-up next Tuesday he will progress me to next food stage where I get at least eggs and cottage cheese...whoo hoo.

Good going girl

Trisha

VWGirl,

You are doing GREAT! Like JoannMarie says, it is not a race! I, too, am a very slow loser, but your loss of 1 pound or so a week is perfect! Think of the long term, not the short term.

I've FINALLY got some restriction, though not a lot, but even with that I can finally get the benefit from having the band. For the first time (since I first got fat) I am eating "normally" and not having to count every calorie; now I eat my Protein, then my veges, and if I have a little more room, I have some really small portion of whatever else is available. No more need for bread, rice and other fillers to get full--how wonderful!

My nutritionist has me on 1100 to 1200 calories per day, which is easy for me to do. I am losing slower than you are-- I've been at the same weight for three weeks now--but I figure every week that I don't gain weight and don't have to focus on food all day long is a great week for me. And, since I can get the band adjusted, I know I can lose weight after I get restriction, so all in all I am a really happy bandster!

And we're all over 50 in this group so don't feel alone there! You know it is much harder for us older folks to lose the weight, so be proud of every ounce and don't try to race--you're doing PERFECT just as you are! :blushing:

Oregondaisy: I am so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. Were you with him when it happened?

I am glad to hear you are happy with your sleeve. Keep up the good work.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
