Hi Apples,

I'm feeling a little better every day. The port pain is still there, but improving. I figure anytime you injure a muscle (esp a core muscle like abdomen or back) it hurts a lot and takes a while to heal. Stitching the port to the muscle wall obviously is a muscle "injury" and it will be a while before it is completely healed. I'm still providing a little support as I stand and walk, and that helps. I have enjoyed reading a good book, playing with my LBTalk friends, getting some knitting done on the afghan for the coming grandchild - in other words, making GOOD use of my time! Not a bad gig...

I don't remember who it was that asked me how to know if you need a defill. Pbing and sliming constantly is not normal.

We are supposed to eat very tiny eraser sized bites, chew it until it's mushie liquid, wait to see if it goes down before trying another bite. If it feels like it's getting stuck or feeling like it's going to come back up, that is not normal. It is normal for this to happen occasionally but not a few times a week.

If it happens frequently, have some fill taken out. The smallest amount of a defill can make all the difference in the world. If it happens frequently only with certain foods, avoid that food.

If you have anything coming up in the middle of the night, see your doctor. That is very important and no matter how

fine things are in the day time, it's a sign of a problem.

People tend to think being really tight is the road to weight loss, but it's not. We want to be tight enough so that we can eat small portions without our stomach growling for at least 3 hours. Head hunger is another story. We need to learn the difference to my "stomach is growling" and Boy I sure wish I had something to eat.

I hope this helps someone!

I just had my third fill this morning. The NP added another cc. I'm on liquids today, "half portions" tomorrow. I assured him I would be cautious!

299 here I come! ;-)

Hi Joann and welcome to the other side! Isn't it a good feeling to finally have that band in place? I was banded on November 19th....give yourself time to rest and heal....I'm getting ready to go back to work on Monday, which should be doable once I'm off the puree diet!

You have been such a support for everyone on this forum...best wishes to you for a speedy recovery!

Yep, all were fixed at the same time and I was home 2 hours after coming out of recovery. It was actually a pretty easy surgery and worst part was having to be careful not lifting, stretching or pulling. There have been no after affects from the surgery and am happy it is behind me. I have had other hernia and adhesions surgeries (3). Just in the genes, I guess.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Sounds like your reflux is worse. Hope you can get a handle on it. Not a good thing to have happen. See if you can get this worked out with your doc. I have been so lucky. Have never PB'd or slimed. I am on this side of hungry when it comes to being filled. I have had two fills in a 14cc band. I get hungry every 3-4 hours and that is fine with me. My biggest fear is the next fill would put over the edge and start causing problems. Good luck with your dr. visit!

Hi Apples2,

I am absolutely amazed that you were sent home 2 hours after all that surgery. Everytime I've had a hernia repair, I've been opened up and kept in. The last two occasions were for two weeks each and then home care nurses for the drain for two weeks after that. Everything is so different over there. I'm wearing a light brace for support so that I'm able to work again. It gives me a feeling of security too.

You have done so well, losing all that weight. You must feel great. Well done.

I think it was me. I did go last Monday and have a half cc taken out. I have done much better. I did pb on saturday, but I have realized I cannot eat shrimp. I think some of my pbing was from eating too fast. I go on the 18th to have the half cc or at least some of it put back in. I haven't lost weight in a week. I appreciate you sharing about the pbing or I might have kept getting stuck.

Welcome back Joanne!! Way to go ...you sound like you are moving right along. How was post op for you? I was thinking of you because it was a little more than I thought. It's like I had no fear about the surgery but worried so much about not being able to eat. As it turns out the surgery was the hard part for me but being banded's been nothing but a blessing. I love eating this way....slow with awareness not inhaling my food like a starving animal!

Welcome home.

Good morning.

Well I am home from my first day of my new 'mini job' at the rec center, plus I worked out for almost an hour afterwards and was still home at 930. this will be good to keep me consistent with exercise, good thing as the pay sucks but it is what it is and will be a fun little job. Am meeting DH for lunch a little later. My biggest change is going to be in eating. I usually eat Breakfast of egg beaters and a slice of bacon. But this morning, I didn't allow enough time and only ate half my eggs and ran out the door. Had my bacon for a mid morning snack when I got home. I can bring something there to heat up in the microwave and eat while working so might try that.

Joann and Soover, hope you are feeling stronger every day!

That's what I figure. The pay is pittance, but I look at it as though I am getting paid to work out. Just have to go a little earlier and I am committed to be there to open the place up in the morning so can't roll over and go back to sleep. And I still have all day off to do as I want, though I always have my eye out for that 'perfect' job.

IMHO - QVC was the perfect job :)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
