Does your band loosen up two weeks post fill?

Recommended Posts

I have noticed that about two weeks after I get a fill I lose the restriction. I have about 3.7cc in my VG10cc band. I had great restriction that helped get me through the holidays but I am finding myself now with very little restricion. Does anyone else loosen up shortly after a fill?:(

Mine had been getting tighter about 2 weeks after a fill, until my last fill. I am going in the beginning of the week, since I feel no restriction like I had. I still think these bands are posessed and have a mind of thier owm...LOL

Have you lost weight since this fill? That could be part of it too. Sometimes we swell quickly with a fill so the fill seems tighter and when the swelling goes down we feel like the fill isn't as tight. Also depending on salt intake you could feel like the fill is tight at first and as the Fluid retention goes away you don't feel as tight. So many reasons it could happen really. It's definately not uncommon though, I've experienced it myself with my fills. You also want to make sure that if that keeps happening with every fill for you that you don't have a leak in the tubing. Does your doc check how much fluid is in your band each time prior to putting more in? Just curious if he/she noticed any loss in fluid inbetween your fills. Good luck!

I got filled 3.7cc also in my 10cc band Dec 4th. I felt restriction for @ 10 days and then was back to none! My doctor told me that it rarely takes just one fill to find the "sweet spot". I have to go and be evalutated again before I can get adjusted. It feels like such a teaser to have restriction and then lose it so quickly! It does give me the confidence, though, that I will be able to succeed this time with my weight loss journey once I hit the "sweet spot"!

I had my first fill on Dec. 11. I had great restriction initially and lost 6 lbs. that week. I now have absolutely no restriction. I'm hungry as heck and eating way too much. I'm afraid to get on the scale because I know i've gained. I'm calling tomorrow to schedule a 2nd fill. Good grief, I'm really feeling bummed out today. If this lapband doesn't work, that means I'm doomed to be fat forever.:think

hi, i had my band placed on 10/16. i have had two fills of 1/2 cc each in a 10cc band. i felt like i had restriction after the second one for about 2 weeks tops and no it seems like i am more hungry as well!!! i go back on 1/9/07 for another fill. i've lost about 7 pounds in the last 3+ weeks but it has been only due to excercise and being determined not to gain more back!!! i hear that it is normal to feel this way until you hit that sweet spot!!! my determination is wearing fast!! i cant wait to get another fill!!!:phanvan

This is exactly how I am feeling. Had two fills. First one I was told not to expect any restriction and didn't have any. I was more hopeful at the second one, but nothing again. I have been going on will power, but that is in low supply now. I was staying at approx 1000 calories a day, but it is now creeping up to 1100 to 1200 a day. I won't lose anything and worse afraid it'll go up.

I think I'm going to have to try to move my next appt up. I NEED restriction!

I have had 2 fills with the same experience. 1cc and then .3cc in my 10cc band. It feels perfect for 2 weeks then I am back to original restriction. I would say that my original restriction isn't too bad, I can eat aabout 1400-1600 cals- which stops my weight loss in its tracks. I guess I am going to get another fill in a couple of weeks.

My wife and I had the same feeling. We were at the doctor yesterday and asked about this and he said that it is normal like has been mentioned abouve. He also said that you loose fat in the area of the band plus something could have been in the way and it moved. We go for another fill in a couple of weeks and feels that we should get it on the third fill. We have the standard AP Band (10 Cm long)

It looks like what I am reading is that most doctor's want you to waite one month before getting a fill. I was banded in Austin, Texas December 4th by Dr. Marsden. Wonderful experience. I have received fills on:

Dec. 18th

Dec. 26th

Dec. 31st

Jan. 3rd @5 cc's

Jan 9th, going in for another fill. I think I may get restriction today.

The nurse that gives me my fills tells me to call after a couple of days if I don't fill restriction and come back in. I pretty well know if I get restriction by the time I leave the doctor's office because I have been able to swallow large amounts of Water easily.

I am being very agressive with my fills because they are covered for the 1st year and I want to take advantage of it. After one year the fills cost $150.00.

I guess what I am trying to say to everyone is if you can afford the fills be agressive. That is what the lap band is for. Don't let a month or month's go by and waist presious time.

:clap2:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
