I'm back home from revision surgery....

Recommended Posts

I made it through my revision surgery Friday. The surgery did take longer than the first surgery mainly because of adhesions and scar tissue from the first surgery. I was in surgery 4 hours. He also had to remove the old lap band and install a new one the reason being that my stomach that had prolapsed over top of the band was so swelled up and inflamed from my almost nightly vomiting that it would not pull back down through the band at all, so therefore he had to remove it and replace with a new one. Bless his heart, I know he must have been worn out after my surgery. I am pretty sore, but have been blessed to have not had any nausea at all and very little gas pains. God is so good. I am moving like a granny woman, but at least I have my new best friend back with me. Please pray I heal up well and that this sinus drainage drys up so I don't cough any.

Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers.

Another fresh start Brenda... I'm so glad that you are safe and sound after surgery and that you have a beautiful new band freshly placed where it belongs! Wishing you a quick recovery. :D

Wow, Brenda, please take care of yourself and rest! I'm so thankful that you had such a great surgeon. Aren't you glad you found out what was going on? Perhaps some liquid benadryl would help w/your sinus drainage.

Brenda,

I'm so glad to hear you were able to come home with a new band! Please let me know if there is anything I can help to answer. It's a downer to have to start over and unfortunately, a much slower process than the original beginning, but I sure understand your relief in getting to keep your band. To me, the liquids phase was not nearly as hard the second time around. I wish you a very speedy recovery!

You are a wonderful person to have gone through a 4 hour surgery, and yet you are more concerned about your surgeon being worn out. Good luck with your new band.

Brenda! I am so glad to hear you are okay - home and recovering with your new friend. Your poor dh.... were they able to come out and update him?!?!

I'll keep you in my prayers that your recovery is smooth and fast.

I'm sure you know but just to be sure, don't take antihistamines if you're taking prescription pain meds.

Hugs,

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
