So, I should be thankful and feel fabulous over the 77lb weight loss I have had these past 7 months, but I can only think and worry over the last 40lbs I have to lose. It is like I have to fight for every ounce that comes off my body these days and I am tired. I am physically and emotionally beat down. I am tired of spending 2-3 hours of my life everyday working out at the gym. And, it sucks that my friends can all go out for pizza and mexican and I can't "afford" the calories.

I am very goal oriented and very driven to lose this weight which I guess is a good thing, but I think I am becoming obessive about it. I want to lose 100% of my excess weight by my one year band anniversary in May. That is 5 months to lose 40lbs and I am scared that I won't make it. I feel like I am on a deadline because I guess I have lived so long without really living that I am anxious to start my life as a thin person.

Some of you may say to relax, give it time, and get a fill, but I don't want to get a fill. For me, the band itself has been my motivator and the fills have only been the last result. I have only had 2 fills in 7 months and I like knowing that the weight I am losing is because of my hard work and my healthy choices and not just because I am so tight I can't eat. I like being normal and being able to eat a normal portion of a variety of foods (there hasn't been anything I can't eat---I just don't because of calories). I have told very few people about my surgery and those that don't know don't suspect a thing and are so proud of me for losing the weight.

I guess I just needed a place to vent and some words of encouragement. If anyone has any plateau buster tips I would love to hear about them. It just seem that I am doing everything right and the weight is just not coming off. Instead I just fluctuate up and down

4-5lbs. Thanks for listening and congratulations on everyones weight loss successes (I guess I should include myself in this compliment, but it is hard to accept).

Whew girl...slow down.

Yeah you!!! you've lost 77 pounds in 7 months.

You're missing friends.

You're missing your life because you think there is a start and an end to skinny and fat.

Might I suggest that you think of this as a spectrum where once you LIVED at 262 and you are in the process of getting to life around 150. At 185ish you are still the same gal you were at 262 and will be at 150. Cute and fun and motivated. You'll certainly have different goals...and goals are good like wanting to be at 150 by your anniversary, but you are putting so much energy on that you are missing the joy of the journey.

Also, that goal is so weighted that should you not make it your head might just pop off you neck! And what good will that do you?

I don't want to say work out less and be with friends more, learn how to go out to restaurants and still be responsible, because that's not what you want to hear. :) But what you can do is up your Water consumption and find a different work out. How long has your weight flucuated? I've found that mine no longer is a sharp downward slope of 10 pounds per month but a more generally downward trend of 5 pounds per month. I think things change up after a half of year or so of doing being the same.

You are doing a stellar job! Be kinder to yourself.

Juli and Tracy: thanks for the kind words. I don't know why I beat myself up. I guess I still have some emotional issues regarding my weight.

Juli: my weight has been fluctuating for a month now and I guess I should just get a fill and keep exercising.

Don't beat yourself up.Good to hear that someone else is feeling the same as i am. I think of myself as very goal oriented too and I want to be successful at this venture. My 40th birthday is August 14 and i want to lose 30 more pounds before then. But I have also plateaued weight loss wise (although still losing inches) and it is driving me crazy. Been in a plateau for like past almsot 3 months playing with the same 4-5 pounds same as you. I feel very frustrated and it is a daily struggle for it not get the best of me. I have gone back and re-evaluated my food intake, exercise and all to see what I am doing wrong and I cannot come up with anything major although I have made more of an effort to increase my Protein to see if that helps. My New Year's resolution was to start going out more and obsess less about a pound, protein, etc. While I am happy & grateful for the weight I have lost, seems like the past year my life became the scale, counting calories, working out at Curves, going to work and it never ends. So you and I must make a pact to have some fun, relax and enjoy life.

I've gotten two fills and am on the same page as you about wanting to eat bits of everything. I don't like being too filled either.

But you might want to think about getting another one. As you get smaller so does your stomach so the band isn't as snug...What exercising are you doing? Can you change that up? Take a different class, set some stupendous goal like running a marathon or something?

You are doing mighty fine. I understand the frustration though. I missed my 199# by 2008 goal...but I have to say 2007 was an amazing year.

I would give anything to be at your place in your weight loss. In fact, can you tell me what you are eating, how often, etc. that would be great!! I was banded on Nov. 1st. I had my first fill on 12/17 and have my second one tomorrow. I lost 18 lbs preop and not only have I not lost any more weight I have gained about 7 back! EEEEKKK. I am hoping my 2nd fill tomorrow helps but I need some guidance. I, too, am down because it has been 2 months since my surgery and nothing is moving on the scale. I can eat like a horse and really want to feel full.

I don't want you to feel down because there are people that are behind you and are looking for your guidance and what you have been doing right all along. Congrats and know that we are all feeling frustration from time to time. We are all in it together.:)

Reading your post and the response that you received has helped me also. We were banded on the same day and our weight loss is about the same. Not only that but Im going thru the same thing. I have also plateaued and its driving me insane. I think at this point it has got to be just the bodys normal response to slow down. What we have to do is not lose our focus and remember that this is for life, not just something we are going to accomplish within a year. I have the rest of my life to get into shape and stay that way.

Jfran,

I really feel for you! Give yourself a break and let the band do it's work for YOU for a change. I really think you need to stop beating yourself up...and get yourself a fill...just a small one. It may be just the thing you need.

Juli: I am exercising 2-3 hours 6-7 days a week doing the eliptical, treadmill, arctrainer, strength/weight training (3 days) and an occasional aerobics class. I honestly don't know what more I could do. Maybe I am doing too much.

I think I just have to come to peace with it and get a small fill.

mktzfla: I am eating 5-6 small meals a day (around 200-300 calories per "meal") I drink about a gallon or more of Water a day. I eat fruit with 4 meals and veggies and salads with 2-3 of the meals. I limit the carbs to whole grains and eat tons of chicken and fish.

I exercise 2-3 hours 6 days a week mostly cardio with 3 days of weight training. I eat "healthy" 98% of the time and when I eat bad I go to the gym and burn it off. I a little mental about it all. I have become addicted to exercising and when I miss a day I feel guilty and scared that I will gain the weight back.

So take what I say with a grain of salt. Increase the intervals you eat (increases metabolism) and increase the exercise, but try not to become too obesssive like me.

Thanks for your kind words. It makes me feel great to know that I am inspiring others.

Violeteyes37: glad to hear I am not the only one in this boat. Let me know if you find anything that works. I am going to break down and get a small fill on tuesday.

Maryrose: I will try not to beat myself up, but being frustrated is frustrating. I am making steps toward positive thinking. I have made 4 dozen signs with positive phrases like "your beautiful", "you are strong" "love yourself" "embrace your success" and have posted them everywhere. Maybe if I read it enough I will believe it.

We can do this!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
