Please Help: Fill doctor needed in Maritimes

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill at TLBC in Toronto but as I live in Halifax my plan was to get the rest done here. Before my surgery I found a doctor willing to do them for me (my family doctor had declined) but she has informed me today that she cannot do my fills because she is awaiting approval from the College of Physicians. Has anyone else had this issue or am I just the lucky one? I'm completely stuck because I can't afford to fly to Toronto for numerous fills (I've maxed out my student loans between this and university). If someone could recommend a fill doctor in driving distance from Halifax that would be great. Thanks

lizzie 07 Contact the TLBC and they may be able to give you a name. I know a lady in Halifax whose physician does the fills for her but there is also a nurse in the City that does fills at her home. contact me privately and I will put you in touch with the lady who has a physician willing to do fills. She also runs the new support group in Halifax so one of her members may help you.

Doddie - Unfortunately her doctor is the exact one I am referring to. I contacted her through email informing her because I am guessing she is unaware that her doctor is no longer willing to perform them until the College of Physicians approves it.

Also, I contacted TLBC and Nancy was completely unhelpful. She had no one else in mind and suggested I fly to Montreal instead which does not help me out whatsoever. What I'm wondering is why this doctor felt the need to get approval from the College of Physicians. Why aren't other fills doctors across Canada doing the same? Could this not pose a problem for all out-of-town bandsters?

lizzie, there is a fill nurse in Nova Scotia, I think she is in Pictou, check with Mandy,AKA Argon, she uses that fill nurse, good luck.

Hi: For out of province patients, this is one of the most difficult aspect of getting a band. That is finding a fill nurse/doctor. Lissie like you my GP reneged AFTER I had the surgery. The fill is a procedure and the College may want to prevent any law suits. My real suspicion is the band is outside the medical coverage and are trying to preven the spread of private clinics. Don't know just my suspicious mind. Doddie

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
