Female over 55 and VSG scheduled in 2 weeks

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hello everyone.

This is my very first post. I am so happy to have found this site. I am hoping to learn from those that have already had their surgery for personal insights.

I am scheduled for my VSG on Monday April 14th and I am both scared and excited! I know everyone's journey is different, but I was hoping for some personal experiences of ladies that are post-menopause, and to hear your 'story'.

Hello and welcome in. There are quite a few posts from us oldies. If you put over 60's or over 55's in the search box you will get pages and pages from ones who are glad they went ahead. The back pages of this forum go back 20+ years and hold a massive input of knowledge. Plenty to keep you busy while you wait.

I was 62 when I joined the bandwagon and am now living a life beyond my wildest dreams.

Thank you SummerSeeker. I didn't notice the 'search bar' at the top. 🙂

Hello and welcome! I am also post menopause and was sleeved on Jan 16.

I am losing super slowly, I think it's slower if you're older, it certainly is for me, but it's coming off, I am feeling great 10 weeks out! 🥳

I need to start some exercise regime, I have never been into exercise really, but I think it's time! 😂

Congrats on your decision and fingers crossed you have a wonderful recovery! Give yourself time, follow your plan! 😊

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
