2008 - The year the Whale died

Recommended Posts

Hi all, never thought id do this but I guess I need the extra motivation. I have always been a big as a kid and nothing changed as i got older. While I was playing sport (rugby league) i did manage to get fit and lose few kilos but never enough to feel good about myself. But now its got to a point where I hate what I've become and I want to change my body for my health and for my appearance.

I am currently 155kg and look like this

Pay me out all yhou want, I've become a fat slob

I have recently had a lap band operation on 29th October 07 and i lost 10kg in my first two months after the operation, but i still need to eat healthy and excercise right which i need all the motivation i can get!

This is my garage converted to gym, includes an excerise bike, total gym, boxing bag, and bench with bar and dumb bells.

My goal is to be fit and healthy and be able to play and be good at rugby league again!

Hi,

Nobody is here to pay anybody out cookie. We are here to support each other. I think you are very brave to post as you have, and for being banded. I want to wish you lots of good wishes. The band will change your life.

Congrats on your surgery. I wish I had a home gym like that. That is really nice. You will find lots of support here. Best of luck. Donna

Congratulations on taking the big step. I was banded on 1 November and have lost 12.6 kilos. It's been a bit hard over xmas with no restriction but I went for a 45 min walk today to make up for some of it. I know when I get better restriction it will start dropping off again. You are brave to do this and I wish you all the best... I wish I had done it when I was younger.

Hey Blocka,

None of us are here because we are underweight - we have been/are where you are now. I was banded on 3 December and have lost over ll kg already - no restriction yet so hate to see what I will be like after the holidays. I'd love a home gym but I don't think i would be motivated to use it - will just have to go with the local gym which I intend to join in the new year.

Hey Blocka,

Congrats on everything. I am getting banded on jan 16 in Perth. I read what you wrote about being a big kid and i know how you feel. I weigh 147 kilos and am 6 feet tall. i have always been a big girl and have never experienced being beautiful, buying pretty things or even being happy and comfortable with myself.

My brother is getting married next year and my mum is unable to go as it is overseas and she is obese and her doctor told her the flight would be too dangerous for her. She was very sad and that was the day i decided to have the op. I do not want to be unable to attend my sons wedding when he is older just because my obesity made me unhealthy.

Since making that decision I have felt better about myself and am hanging out till the 16th.

Congratulations on your surgery date. I had my op because I didn't want to end up like my mum and sister who both died too young. I have lost 13 kilos since my op on 1 Nov. Good luck and good on you for your decision.

Thanks for the positive reply guys, I just finished a weight session and am starting to love the sore tired feeling afterwards, I know it means Im one step closer to looking better.

It's Ironic that you guys got it done because you didnt want to be like your parents. I got it done thanks to my mum, she had one 3 years, she had a fair few complications with infections but has still managed to lose about 50kgs and is now at the point where she needs to be cut and tucked.

After see my mums success story I finally decided I wanted a band and here I am 3 days away from my first fill and working out on new years eve and not drinking alchohol (partly because Im working)

I won't say adapting the band has been easy I did try and cheat and have eating somethings that arent right and I pay for it when I eat to fast or much. But I'm definatly used to it now.

Good luck to everyone with their weight journey in the new year and I will keep you all posted!

Ok my first fill I had 3mm put into a 5mm band and jeez is it restrictive. I now have found out I need to chew ten times as long.

I also had a weigh in and have lost 9kgs to date, including being unfilled over chrissy and new years!

Im feeling great, sometimes i feel hungry but i dont crave food as much as i used to.

Oh and the other day i got something else put in my body  And I just wanted to show it off

I wasn't here for the start of the thread, but want to say well done. It is a hard road ahead, I've only just started. You've done fantastically and I'm sure you will meet your new goal.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
