Pureed /Soft food Ideas

deviled eggs, cottage cheese and skinless fruits, Soups that are usually chunky but purreed, greek yogurts, canned chicken or tuna with reduced fat mayo and mustard

I mix can of refried Beans and two cans of chicken, which is softer than regular cooked chicken) and mix it well, then I have meals for several days. I usually microwave have a cup and up with a tablespoon of shredded cheese. I add spices to taste, but nothing too hot. It's my favorite meal. Soooo good. 💕

I liked making a ricotta bake with one small container ricotta cheese mixed with 1-2 eggs and spread in a small baking dish, topped with a jar of marinara (make sure it's not chunky, so put in blender if needed) and a handful of mozzarella cheese. Bake at 350F until the cheese browns. Now that I'm beyond puree stage, I add a bag of frozen chopped spinach (thawed and drained) to the ricotta mix and layer in chicken Italian sausage that I remove from the casing and cook up in a pan first (placed on top of the ricotta and before the sauce). It gives all the satisfaction of a lasagna or Pasta dish without the added carbs, and pairs well with zucchini spirals.

Pea Soup, re-pureed to a smoother consistency with a dash of parmesan cheese.

I loved putting fat free refried Beans or ricotta cheese into anything I could, but I think I pretty much lived off of cottage cheese. I think I ate it every day, and just stirred in different seasonings (dill with garlic, chili powder, curry powder, rotisserie chicken powder. I even tried dill pickle popcorn seasoning!)

Depending on your program, you might also be able to have certain crackers already -- my team told me saltines or melba toast were good in small doses at this point, eaten slowly and with something wet -- ie. melba toast dipped in hummus.

I'm still on a liquid diet and I never thought Refried Beans would sound SOOOOOO GOOOOD to me right now. lol.

I went the route of slow cooked Soups with meats & vegetables & stews/ casseroles. Slow cooked so the meat was ‘fall off the bone’ tender. Also ate a lot of minced meat dishes especially mince bolognese & rissoles (meat balls). Also I had a separate purée stage then followed by soft food. Go slowly and see how you go. You may find a few days of purée first easy on your tummy then jumping straight into the more solid soft food.

I've been trying to puree tuna with some yogurt instead of mayo and I think it's just too much for me right now. (three weeks post op) But I I've definitely taken the advice about blended thick Soups so they are thinner and cottage cheese. I also had some cream of Tomato Soup and blended some cottage cheese into it and it enhanced the flavour of both.

I used to love cottage cheese when I lived in the US, but it doesn't have the same texture as the UK so I didn't like it anymore. Now, it's a godsend. Funny how life works. I'm really struggling with purees so I'm going to stay on liquids for an extra week.

I must invest in a slow cooker. My mum had a great recipe for slow cooked beef stew (she had gastric bypass so it was really soft beef) and I've been wanting to make it for a while. I don't quite know the recipe since she never wrote it down and I can't ask her anymore, but she always like to experiment in the kitchen so I think it's better I find out on my own anyway.

I'm hoping I can get a cheap one on pay day so I can start actually cooking in the soft food stage.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
