Did you guys have improved back pain after you had surgery. That's one of the main reasons that I wanted to lose the weight cause my back pain is excruciating

Definitely.

Pre-op back pain was pretty much constant. About once a month, more or less, my back would 'pop' and would be bedridden for days. Post-op after I lost the bulk of my bulk it has not happened again, about 18 years. The chronic pain also reduced dramatically.

Good luck,

Tek

short answer: yes! upper/lower/mid back pain improved! as did foot pain, knee pain!

long answer: it got better, then it got bad again, and then better. apparently rapid weight loss results in weird aches and pains as your body musculature re-adjusts to your smaller size. lower back pain returned and i got a new hip pain, but then both went away.

aside: but one thing that was new and annoying and hasn't gone away is that get back pain now when i sleep on my stomach (i never had this problem before)...my guess is because now that i don't have a larger stomach to prop me up, my back is actually hyper-extending now when i'm on my stomach which results in pain in the morning. boo.

Yes! I had debilitating back pain that was causing muscle weakness in my legs. I could barely walk up 2 steps, I couldn't do a flight of stairs. Every time I stood for more than 5 minutes I'd start to get intense spasms all across my lower back radiating down into my butt and the only way to stop them was to lay down. I got them when walking too. It severely limited my mobility...

I noticed a few weeks after surgery that the pain wasn't as bad. By 3 months post op the pain was gone!! I can walk as long as I want to now. I'm working on rebuilding the muscles that were weakened by the pain and inactivity. I'm so, so, SO grateful for my surgery and the pain relief. I was having to get injections into my SI joint every few months and I was still having the spasms every day... So glad to be free of those, man were they painful!

I am starting to get the hyperextension pain @ms.sss describes from sleeping on my stomach too. I guess because my spine has to curve in the other direction now that my stomach is going down! LOL

Oh this gives me hope because this lower back pain is killing me. Between the surgery and my new matters mattress I'm hopeful again lol

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
