Pain

I'm a week out from surgery but have been having rib to back pain (maybe spasms). At first, it was if I had sipped too much liquid, but now it comes and goes on its own. Has anybody else experienced this? Is this normal?

I'm having rib/back pain too and am a week out. I figure it has something to do with being on the table, then in a hospital bed. Plus my stomach and abs feel like they've been overworked so that is bound to have an affect on my back. I'm moving carefully still and find if I've been sitting it is hard to stand up straight at first. So I think my muscles are all bunched up around there trying to protect my vulnerable belly. A heating pad has been helping!

But if the pain continues and seems to be getting worse, definitely let your team know!

They do toss you about a bit after the surgery when they move you to a bed. Plus there’s a lot of poking & prodding your other abdominal organs during the surgery. I think we can hold a lot of tension in our bodies after the surgery too - stress & also trying to protect out wound sites & abdomen so muscle spasms can occur. My back went into spasm on day 2. The pain was awful - couldn’t sit, stand, lie down,… I was in hospital & they kept me in another day.

I do agree, that if it continues, occurs more frequently or worsens contact your team.
