I have definitely never heard this. I have no choice but to reheat my food because I just can't eat a full portion of much of anything. I haven't had any issues at all.

Yeah I've read this, you aren't crazy. I am sure it was something one person's nutritionist said and now it is everywhere on the internet. LOL

I think it is the change in moisture content too, I can see how it would be a particular issue with meat early on. Otherwise it is just your tummy being sensitive. food changes texture when it is microwaved! For instance, I loathe microwaved homemade mashed potatoes, it is just not the same and the texture gets weird. But I am super texture sensitive so that might be why I notice it. I really hope I don't have that issue post surgery!

I wonder if it's because sometimes food reheated in the microwave becomes dry, and that can be really hard for WLS people to digest. Maybe take it on a food by food basis: dry vs not dry. With that said, I reheat my food all the time. I just keep clear of anything that's too dry (that goes for all food leftovers or not).

Over reheating leftovers in the microwave can dry out the food and dry food can cause tummy upset due to textural issues because it's dry. I happily use my microwave, just enough to get my food warm but not dry.

I have only had issues with chicken breast, since it tends to dry out when reheating in the microwave. Have to make sure you are eating it slowly and chewing it completely. Otherwise I reheat everything, but bring it out to room temperature first so reheating is less than a minute in the microwave. You can always add some sauce or broth if its too dry.

I can reheat lean ground beef no problems. But steak..... that's a big NO. chicken too. If it's rubbery at all..nope.

No matter how much I chew it, it seems to go down better if the meat is shredded and in some kind of sauce. Texture is a big factor for me to determine if it's going to stay down. At 5 months out, I seem to handle most foods better now.

Reheating everything else has been just fine. But I did read on a few Bariatric websites, somewhere while researching surgery pre-op, to avoid reheating food in a microwave. I told my nutritionist what I read, and she also said like people here, that she'd never heard that before. But that info is out there, somewhere. I just don't remember where.

Oh wow. Maybe it’s just me 🥹

It's not just you! I have read that you should avoid the microwave as it dries food out making it harder for your stomach to break down. Its just a matter of how dry the food is, so maybe add a liquid when you can, or cover your items like chicken etc with a damp paper towel?

I agree. I have problems eating chicken breast the first time around let alone reheating it. Actually a good piece of steak goes down easier than chicken for me!

I tried it. And it’s still a no for me. I’m 2 months and 5 days post op and my stomach still says hell no. It’s like the food is spoiled the way my body rejects it.
I can finally do eggs again but only egg whites.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
