Terrible shocking pains, please tell me it gets better!

Recommended Posts

Im 4 days post op gastric sleeve & I am soooo thirsty all the time but I cant seem to get a single tiny sip of Water down without getting horrible shocking pains on the upper left abdomen area right under my breast or rib cage.
Even one ice chip at a time hurts so bad.
Anyone else experiencing this?

side note, i tried a little mashed potato & it went down fine. Its the liquids that kill me.

Is it with all liquids, hot and cold? Sometimes, warmer liquids feel better going down. If it doesn't get better, maybe contact your team.
In my experience if I drink colder liquids and lay down, I get some pain where you described.

I agree it could be a temperature issue. I certainly found warm/hot drinks more soothing. Many of us experience swelling after surgery making swallowing difficult or painful but if you see no improvement in the next day contact or surgical team.

Cold liquids were absolutely a huge NO NO for me for 2 weeks post surgery. But warm liquids were fine. Try that and see if it helps.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
