Hunger!

Recommended Posts

Uh oh, the hunger is coming, and with a vengeance. I was banded on the 7th, and my pain has become minimal. I think it was this passed Friday that I really started to feel somewhat normal again -- and I was so happy because my shoulder pain had me in tears ... I even had to come home from work last Wednesday it was so bad.

Anyhow ... I have been getting my cravings back the last few days. Today has been the worst so far ... all I can think of is FOOD!!!! I know what's coming, and people are not going to like being around me for the next week or two -- I am going to cranky and moody!

Has this hunger hit anyone else yet? Kinda stinks, but this is where the hard part comes in. First week was great, didn't feel hungry -- maybe because of all the pain. Now that the pain has mostly subsided ... here it is! :)

Jais,

Contact your surgeon, I was banded on the 3rd and when I saw my Dr post op last week, I was told that I could start on mushies - lots of sauce with them and pureed up but that I could have between 1/2 - 1 cup per meal. As this stopped making me feel full I was to make them less mushie until I can eat soft normal food.

You may need to start mushies, but as I said check with your Dr first.

Thanks Danna, I will give him a call tomorrow.

I am feeling better now than I was feeling earlier ... wow, I just wanted to stuff a hamburger or something in my face, it was bad. I just need to keep telling myself that stuff is the poison that put me in this position -- over and over again, lol!

Haven't been banded yet, but the doctors office warned me that the last two weeks of the post op diet would be the worst - that is when I would really begin to feel hungry. Looks like you are approaching that 2 week point.

Good luck. Your doctor may approve something you can add in. Of course, check with him first!

Well, I talked to the nurse and my doctor today --- they said I can go onto mushies today! He also told me that I will be feeling hunger until my first fill on January 8th ... but to just hang in there -- that this first month is a big mental struggle as well. So, basically --- he just said to cope with it, and he's right -- nothing worthwhile comes easy

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
