Gas and “smells”

Recommended Posts

Still pre-op but I am really worried about smelly gas and BM’s. I’ve heard it is a real problem. Maybe it is just my vanity but I don’t want to gross myself and everyone else out. Pretty sure I’d rather be fat. What is everyone’s experience with this and what are you doing, if anything, that helps

not that common with sleeve or bypass. Much more common with the DS.

for sleevers and bypassers, Constipation can be a chronic issue, though. A lot of us take Miralax, stool softeners, or magnesium tablets every day to stay on top of it.

I had sleeve and I haven’t noticed any difference in either. I did have issues with Constipation in the beginning but even that I was able to wean myself off of the Fiber as I got to normal serving sizes of things. Many people do have long term issues with constipation though and need to take something as preventative.

I can't say I've had a particular problem... Well, occasionally... but, never mind that.

But let's get real: There's a reason for the saying "Everyone's **** smells." You are the only one that thinks no one isn't already taken aback by walking into a restroom behind you.

Life does not begin and end at the restroom door.

Good luck,

Tek

It wasn’t a problem for me except in hospital after the surgery when I had a terrible diarrhoea experience but a lot of that was influenced by excess stomach acid, the extra strong laxatives they kept giving me & some blood etc. from the surgery itself.

You may notice the opposite - generally less farting & less smell (except when constipated or after taking a stool softener or laxative ☹️). Less sugar, fewer carbs, fewer/no carbonated drinks & general change of diet & eating habits help …well it did for me quite dramatically.

If it does worry you, you could try that personal stop poop smell spray - can’t remember the name of it (poo pourri??). Don’t know if it works.

Ooh I have heard that poo pouri stuff works. I always just used matches (pre surgery) like if I stayed in a hotel with someone on business trip or when I used a single shared restroom in the office.

I have the sleeve and I haven't noticed any difference from before the surgery. I just have to make sure if I haven't gone poo in 2 days, on day 3 I take something to get it moving. That's really it.

Nope. No difference. You do go a lot less because you don't eat as much. Some get constipation.< br>

I have never heard of it being a problem except one YouTube blogger mentioned it. I didn't listen to her and went ahead with the surgery. Glad I did. It gave me pause like for 5 seconds lol.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
