Recommended Posts

Just curious to see what your Dr's have said regarding post op liquids and how long you're to be on them.

Im to be on liquids, basically Clear Liquids PLUS tomoto Soup, including Jello, popsicles, crystal light, broth, diluted juice...ect...

for a total of 4 weeks.

Just wondering what your dr's have said.....

I am only on clear liquids for at most the first week. I think at 7 days i start to add in oatmeal consistancy (so xmas day i can have oatmeal! heh).. 4 days after i can start to do nonfat yogurt..

I know that being on a liquid diet can make you drop a lot of weight quickly (heh it was my #1 choice to lose weight before and i could drop 30-40lbs in a month using complete liquid diet), so maybe a lot of doctors like to keep patients on liquid diets for the big weight loss boost to get them motivated and more quickly able to be active again..

wow..Im jealous...

I dont know i might try to stay on my Protein shakes for a bit longer though, as i know that will help shrink my stomach and get the weight loss a little boost at the start.

Same here, I am sticking to the Protein Shakes for a bit (I was banded on 12/7).

I am haven't had bad cravings, except last night -- we had poker night, and watching all the guys drink beer, eat Cookies, pizza, chips ... it was real tough on me. Thank goodness for the band, I KNEW I couldn't have anything -- my Water and I made it through the night :)

I have to do 2 weeks liquids... 2 weeks pureed/soft foods (like yogurt, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes.... then 3 weeks of slowing intro other softer foods.

I can't wait until Dec. 26th, as I begin soft foods, so I can get Protein from scrambled eggs, etc.... I have had enough of this liquid already... but I am doing it!!!!!

Hi, Here is what Atlanta Bariatrics has you do...

1 day pre-op - clear liquid

day of surgery - clear liquid

next 7 days - liquid diet which consists of 3 unjury Protein shakes a day & 1 liquid snack such as Jello pudding, yogurt, popsicle, broth. Also you are to consume 24 oz of other liquids in the day - Water, juice, etc.

next 21 days - mushy food diet. 3 meals a day, no snacking. oatmeal, grits, cream of wheat, eggs, moist chicken or turkey, well cooked vegetables & cream Soups, cottage cheese, yogurt, tuna, etc.

After this you resume a full diet as toletated.. My first fill is scheduled for January 14, 2008...

I am telling you I can't wait for mushy food. I am so sick of Protein Shakes I could vomit! They taste good & all, I am just sick of them.. I like a little variety.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
