The first 2 or 3 weeks post-op I was so obsessed with food I would watch tiktok videos of people cooking for literally hours every day 😂 Eventually, I stopped caring so much about food and now 7 weeks post-op I hardly think about it at all.

Me too. I even watched mukbangs. But now after trying soft foods I get disgusted watching ppl eat. Idk why

I had RNY surgery 5 days ago. I still have numbness in areas of my stomach, I am feeling faint and nauseous even though I am drinking all the required Clear Liquids daily. I am struggling to get my 60g of Protein. The worst thing though is that I feel like I am STARVING! I get so faint that I lay in bed and it doesn't help at all. I do walk for 5 or so minutes every hour (not counting bathroom visits) All I can think about is food. Is this normal? I want warm solid food instead of cold liquids and Jello. I am on phase 2 but the struggle is real. Will my mindset change or will this be how I feel forever?

How are you doing?

I was obsessed with watching restaurant food challenges during my pre-op liquid phase. Since surgery, I've grown addicted to watching cookie shows. The mind is a weird thing.

I am glad I am not the only one! I would watch any cooking show that Netflix or Hulu had to offer haha. Now that I am almost 4 weeks post-op I don't feel the urge. I do still find it hard that what I used to be able to eat, I can now only eat a quarter of it at a time. It's definitely a mind trick.

I felt exactly like this for weeks, specifically physical symptoms.
i could barely stand up without feeling like i would black out.
i found out at my followup appointment that i had really low blood pressure.
The nurse recommended that I start drinking Gatorade zero every day.

one full bottle.
I was on to regular soft foods like Soups and mashed potatoes at that time, I also started adding salt to my foods

within a few days I started feeling much better.
im a couple months post op and i still think about food all the time unfortunately. chips especially 😕

i try and eat little meals and have pretty good restriction so cant eat much but overall i feel good. Ive averaged losing 5lb a week

surgery day i was 251 and now im at 208. My surgery was may 3rd

you’re going to get through this. I suggest checking your blood pressure, if it’s low increase your sodium intake

I had to get another blood draw and they told me I was lacking in potassium and my blood pressure was super low. I was also recommended to drink a bottle of Gatorade Zero as well. Right after surgery every time I would shower the steam would make me want to faint/vomit and standing up in general was an absolute nightmare. I am about 4 weeks post-op and am still struggling to eat anything besides greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and tuna lol. My starting weight was 278 and now I am down to 241. It is very exciting! Keep up the great work.

It’s been a little while how are you doing now, it’salbright

Thank you for asking! I am doing a lot better after having to get 3 i.v. infusions at once. lol. I am still struggling to get my full amount of Water and Protein in. My stomach only seems to like greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and tuna consistency type things. Scrambled eggs were meh I am trying mashed potatoes now. I am just about a month post-op and there is definitely a learning curve. Someday soon-ish I hope to be able to eat a solid meal with veggies and protein! I caught some salmon and I am really eager for it.

Oh good I’m glad you got some fluids to help you out. Idk why some people seem to struggle a little longer than others but I’m glad you are figuring out a couple things that you can eat and getting the help you need from your doctors (the fluids) while you need it. I hope the mashed potatoes worked out for you.

Mashed potatoes were a must for me. It was, for a while the only thing that didn't cause waves of nausea or make my stomach hurt. Tomato Soup was another. No Protein, but sometimes....

I was going to suggest Soup as well as patience like everyone else. Good luck and be kind to yourself.

Try different temperatures. Warm liquids such as broth were more satiating to me early on. Pho broth was a lifesaver!

The potatoes are a must almost every day lol. The only things that currently do not cause my stomach to hurt or nausea are tuna, greek yogurt, cottage cheese and hummus. I have tried many things and can only still manage soft foods.

Being kind to myself has never been on the top of my to do list. I am learning through this journey and am much happier for it!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
