Can multi-vitamins be taken at night & still be effective? I have become severely anemic (to the extent of needing blood transfusions) but cannot tolerate Vitamins throughout the day. I becomevso nauseous and shaking after taking them that I am unable to function. Please offer solutions that have worked that I may try. Thank you!

yes - they should be fine regardless of when you take them.

On a related issue, although the current Iron form I take (carbonyl) doesn't upset my stomach, i started taking iron before bed because the original type I was taking DID bother my stomach - taking it before bed helped with that (and I still take my iron before bed - just out of habit at this point)). So I don't see a reason why you can't take a multi before bed.

I agree that it doesn’t matter what time you take it of the day but to ideally avoid the nausea alltogether have you tried taking a Vitamin with lower doses and just take it twice a day?

I was told to take Vitamins with food to help with absorption. I find that taking it with food helps with the nausea. I take my Multivitamin at night, but I eat a good snack with it. It can still make me throw up if I don't have enough food in my stomach!

Just don’t take Calcium supplements within 2 hours of your Iron supplement. Calcium inhibits the absorption of iron.

So when i first started taking them it was making me very nauseous. The nutritionist told me to take the multivitamin with Iron at night before bed along with a small snack. That helped a ton.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
