Bad eating habits and sugar cravings have returned 11 months PO Gastric Bypass

Recommended Posts

Question?? Is anyone be sides my self feel like you no longer have that food restriction feeling? I can eat just about anything and everything and I don't like that. I feel like after only 11 months PO I'm just binge eating again. Sugary foods don't bother me, I'm craving for soda that I haven't had in 11 months, I'm always feeling like I want to eat something. I was doing so good and now I have no motivation to keep going. My family always got junk food in the house and I find myself reaching for the bad things again. I've lost 80lbs, and feel like I gained some back. Please no judgement just encouraging words will help

You have already proved to yourself that you can do this. You have lost 80lbs. I heard that this can happen. Please try to keep things in check. Better to get on top of this now while the weight gain is minimal. Do you want to go back to where you were? Give yourself the gift of life. You got this. 💗

I'm fighting this same issue as well just under 2 years out from surgery. I hit an alltime adult low of ~213 pounds about 8 months ago. I've kept it close to that, but over the past 6 months I've slowly gained about 9 pounds. Don't get me wrong, 222 is still a far cry from my June 2019 weight of 389, but the warning signs are there. I'm hoping that Spring warmer temperatures finally actually get here so I can get outside for exercise more regularly (or that I'm more inclined to do so), but I need to focus on my eating habits more and nip this thing in the bud.

I think we sometimes forget that lifelong battles are indeed that.

a 10-20 lb weight rebound is very common after you hit bottom. In fact, I "attend" Unjury's virtual support group for people 1+ years out on Wednesday nights, and the speaker they had last week (a dietitian in Boston) said a 5%-15% gain from your lowest weight is pretty much expected, and they don't consider it a regain until it goes over 15%. Until then, it's just your body settling in at a weight it's comfortable at.

That said, things do start to get trickier, because you don't want your weight to start spiraling out of control again. A lot of people set a "red line" for themselves - a weight that, once you go past it, it's all hands on deck until you get back under that red line again.

so anyway - yes - it's a lifelong battle.

you need to do whatever you can to get this back under control. Does your clinic have a dietitian or psychologist you can work with? Or if not, can they recommend someone?

I can never able to depend on “motivation” either because so many things can interfere.
I need to set long term goals instead so I have a timeline and milestones to reach.
I agree that you should do whatever you can to fix the issue now because this may be the easiest time to get back on track since you’re still (relatively) early in your WLS journey. Good luck, cheering you forward!

So, I have heard that people years out from surgery have restriction still IF they stick to Protein. Like we can eat lots of sugary junk foods, but if you eat a chicken breast or fish, you will not be able to eat too much. So, fill up on protein. I know it's hard; I am only 7 months out and I crave sugary foods too.

I do drink DIET soda, because our surgery center says that's okay, but I don't drink much because it's not as comfortable as it used to be.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
