Just signed up for 5K - very emotional

Recommended Posts

I just signed up for my first 5K race (on Mother's Day!) and suddenly I'm so emotional that I'm shaking. I've done several 5Ks in the past, both before and after my lapband in 2013 (lost 95 lbs, got pg then gained it all back plus more), but I just can't believe I'm back and going to be able to do this again! I'm in tears thinking about how much I've changed in the past year (sleeved on 3/26/21), and I'm so proud that I'm bursting. I'm half way through week 4 of Couch to 5K and things are going awesomely. I'm scared too, though, because I have fears that I'll tear something or get injured. And anyone who did C25K before knows the dreaded 20 min run is next week. I'm trying to be super careful and methodical about my stretching before and after training so I can continue running. It makes me feel invincible.

I have to say the c25k app got me back into running post sleeve. I just ran my first sub 30 minute 5k race last weekend. The app works!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
