Question about losses

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery about 3 weeks ago. I have lost 9 lbs since the surgery and a total of 23 since I started. It seems to me that this is pretty good, it's an average of 3 lbs a week since surgery.

I went to WW yesterday and had lost 1.2 lbs, which I thought was pretty darn good. When talking to friends, they asked how much I had lost. When I told them, they asked if that was all. I said I was thrilled to death. They felt that I should have lost more.

My question is how much have you all been losing since surgery in November?? I figure if I average 2 lbs a week I'll have lost over 100 lbs in a year, so I'm thrilled.

I won't know for sure until tomorrow.

But some people confuse lap-band surgery with gastric bypass surgery, where they do lose much more quickly. I was told 1-2 pounds a week is not only expected but also considered the healthiest rate. You have the right outlook. That adds up to a lot of weight in a year! Congratulations!

Hi Wendy.

I wouldn't put too much stock into what other people say/think about your weight loss. They probably think the surgery is a miracle cure, which you and I know is not the case. I had my surgery November 8, and I've lost 16 pounds - which works out to about 3lbs per week. Everyone will be different, though, so if yours is more or less than that, don't worry about it. Just keep losing, and I know you will! :)

I dont know... When I went in for my post op appt i had lost about 12lbs..as ive integrated mushy food into my diet, i dont feel like ive lost anymore. Actually i feel like ive gained. I dont have a scale, so i havent weighed but im really worried. My fill isnt scheduled until Jan 9th, so im afraid i will be back at my pre-surgery weight by then. Hopefully im just being a paranoid worrywart .

Hey Wendy. I would be thrilled with 1.2 pounds a week also! Pre-band that would have been a miracle for me to lose that much in a week, if not a month. I've lost 29 since the pre-op diet which would have been, I don't know, two weeks before Nov 2! I'm not losing as much lately, but for once I'm not even worried because this band is going to work with me to help keep my eating in check. Pre-band I would have been on a diet for a few weeks, not lose, then binge, gain weight, be depressed, gain some more, and the cycle repeats. I did WW a few times, and the moment I started plateuing I quit. Anyway, I don't even know where I'm going with this - other than 1.2 pounds a week is great, and the band is going to help you achieve your goals instead of white-knuckling it the whole way on your own.

Linda

I spoke with one of my girlfriends who was there yesterday. She said that she thought that even though I knew that I wasn't going to drop all my weight overnight, the others thought I would.

I know that nothing said to be hurtful. Thanks for all of your replies.

Hey wendy,

You are doing great. You can see my numbers in my signature. I am averaging about 3.3 pounds a week since I started the pre-op diet at the end of October, but hardly any of that was lost in the last few weeks. I think your body just needs to adjust. I have said this before (and I believe it FIRMLY) - when I hit a slow stretch before, I would get pissed off and quit. Now, I am certain that it WILL come off - maybe more slowly than some people think - but it WILL come off, and I will NOT quit. I find that realization very soothing.

You have a good attitude! Keep it up because it will get your through the hard times. Remember, that everyone has an opinion but it really boils down to how you feel. 1-2lbs a week is exactly where we should be; if it is more than it is a bonus.

Best of luck to you!

This is exactly how I feel too. And it's the first time I've ever felt this way about weightloss. I used to diet and weigh myself everyday and be depressed if there was no loss. Now I still weigh myself everyday (I know, I know!), but I'm not at all worried when the scale doesn't budge - even if it doesn't budge for a week - because I know with restriction this is going to work for me. It's such a relaxing feeling.

I have lost 27 lbs since surgery, most of it in the first 4 weeks. I expect it will slow up, especially since I don't have a lot of restriction. Last time I was on a diet, it took me around 6-8 months to lose the same amount... how can I not be happy with my current result. :whoo::whoo:

Your comments are encouraging to me as well. I have the same attitude. I invested a lot in this surgery route and IT WILL WORK!! I am prepared to make the adjustments along the way, but it will work! People have unreasonable expectations and they are uninformed about the LAP BAND what it is supposed to do and how after banding the individual still needs to make the same kind of effort as other dieters. The main advantage with the band is controlling the hunger and therefore, being more successful. Thank goodness for forums such as these so we can "band" together.

Highest Weight before banding: 242

Pre-surgery weight: 236

Two weeks after surgery: 226

Fourth week still maintaining: 226, but fluctuates bet. 226 and 224.

I had surgery exactly 2 weeks ago today and I have lost 12 pds so far. The band is amazing. I hardly feel hungry. i get full on about 8 oz of apple sauce and 1 yogurt. i am now in the pureed phase and scared that i will start gaining. need some good ideas on what would be healthy in this stage. my appetite is so different and i have so much more motivation than i had before the surgery. best thing i ever did for myself. Merry Christmas to me

You'll feel even fuller after the first fill. You will be able to eat only 1/2 a cup afterwards. I was having Pasta primavera with chicken. I served it on a small bowl and when I was done, I wanted some more chicken, bad move... There is only so much that can fit in your pouch. I had such discomfort and tried the papaya enzyme chewable pill and it made the food go down without throwing up.

Your doing great.

We’ve all been on those diets where we wind up making ourselves tired, sick and then re-gain the weight plus a few extra pounds just as a reminder that the diet didn't work. The band is a tool to HEALTHY weight loss.

I think some people just can’t grasp that my stomach is smaller now, not sliced and diced then re-routed.

Keep up the good work.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water. Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
