Once An Overeater, Always An Overeater

Recommended Posts

Actually, I was attributing the blanket statement comment to the OP. You're right about everyone being able to see that she was uneducated by her doc, she even laments that fact at the end of her original post.

I'm unable to read non-medical posts in a purely analytical mode, and that seems to be the case for many other posters as well.

This is one of the reasons I have stayed away from these boards... I peek now and then when I am board.. this one caught my eye...

Lapbandit expressed an opionion and she is ponced on... NOT everyone has been susscessful with there band.. if you are an overeater....the chances of continuing to overeat is most likey going to continue.

I really believe that if you could not stay on a diet before the band... you will not be able to after banding!.. and you will need to diet to rid yourself of the excess weight!...we did not get to be obese because we have been able to say no to food!...

Someone brought up smoking and drugs.. well you don't need to smoke or do drugs to survive... you have to EAT!!.. you can't just give up food.

Can't someone come to these boards and just lay it out there without being beat up on.

NOT everyone is happy about their decision to have this surgery and they are entitled to there opinions!

Okay..here is my opinion...pounce away :nervous

Kathy

For the 20 billionth time...I have no problem with anybody expressing an opinion on this board about their OWN experience. What annoys me is ASSuming that it WILL be everybody else's experience and telling everybody that it will be and they better watch out. I AM AN OVEREATER. Or at least, I was. Before the band. Don't you think I've tried to kick the overeating habit before? I did. Never could. I have a very addictive personality. Kicking the food habit is the hardest thing I've ever faced in my entire life. It's wrought with stress and frustration. But since getting the band, I have overeaten ONCE. One time in nearly 2 months? That's a freakin record for me. I could never go longer than a week without compulsively eating until I was uncomfortable. This is why I say it is not fair to say that any compulsive overeater will continue to be so after the surgery. I'm not. And I know that it can be overcome because thus far, I have done it. And I'll also add this - my overeating involved sweets before. I have not binged on sweets at all since the surgery. When I've had something with true sugar in it, it was a VERY conservative amount (think a couple bites). There's no way I could have gone as long as I have right now without sugar. It is definitely an addiction of mine. But everyday you make that choice. Nobody is destined to be locked in this addiction forever.

@ Steph...YER SIGGY IS HYNOTIC (smiles) I am a grammer freak.

:D Thanks.

I have to say that what the original post said had some validity in the sense that this doesn't just solve the eating problem. I have often wondered what would happen when I reached goal and had trouble with my band and had to remove it. I had read somewhere that they encourage you to have it placed back. I was initially surprised by that, but the comments were that people tend to fall off the wagon with out the band in place, which goes with the OP theory. I think it is good information even if it is just one person't opinion.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
