Pain in shoulder blades area after eating

Recommended Posts

For some reason I have developed pain when I eat between the shoulder blades. I have had sleeve surgery in July 2021 and doing well. Just cant stand this stupid pain that comes and goes. All CT scans and blood work normal. I do have a small hernia that was supposed to be fixed when surgery but showed up on CT. Does all have this issue?

I have that when I eat too fast. Does eating slowly help? Did it just start or has it been going on since surgery/starting solid foods?

But, it could be just from losing weight - I've had back pain since starting to lose significant weight and I've never had back pain my whole life.

It has been since my surgery and have to eat foods. I had a hernia repair done and the CT showed a small one so Im guessing thats the issue. But who knows. Still worth the trade off.

Maybe try eating more slowly with smaller bites very well chewed and see if this helps?

Like @lizonaplane, I get this if I eat too quickly. It does dissipate but it hurts! Maybe try to get a small timer (if you have Apple devices, Looping Reminder is an app that you can set for, say, every three minutes... it taps my wrist and I eat a bite).

Your body is relearning how to hold itself with your lower weight. Back, hip & knee pain and balance issues are not uncommon since your muscles, tendons, skeleton used to compensate for your excess weight & now it doesn’t. Your centre of balance is changing & your posture is improving.

I had upper shoulder pain & then I realised my bras were too big for my shrinking breasts & were not supporting me correctly. Got fitted for new bras & my back pain vanished. Otherwise try acupuncture, therapeutic massages or a physio to help ease the postural transition.

I tend to agree with the others @jadj65 & the cause of your discomfort could be from eating too fast &/or eating too much. The restriction usually is felt across the chest but your signal for eating enough maybe discomfort across your back. It takes time for the message to get through that we’re full & we get full much more quickly, so it is easy to eat more than we need (past eating enough) especially if you’re eating too quickly. Don’t be afraid to put your cutlery down & sit back from your plate.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
