Hi there,

Is this meeting for lapband people or just anyone with a weight problem come. I had the lapband surgery in Jun and I live an hour away from Richmond and it sure is hard to get to those.

I live in Petersburg. I had my surgery with Commonwealth Surgeons out of St. Mary's. My doc was Amy Martin but she has since left and moved out of state. I am still pleased with the office, nurse practitioner and my service. I went to WLS support meeting on 1/7/08. There was about 45 people with the majority being people who have already had surgery anywhere from one week to three years.I had not been since last May. It was good to hear the doc re-emphaize the "rules" again (exercise, measuring foods, reduce carbs, fluids etc.) and hear success stories.

Twinketoe sorry for the late reply. The meetings are for weight loss surgery patients (band and gastric bypass). People who have already had or thinking about it. They usaully have a general information session scheduled right before it at 6:00 and then the support meeting at 7. There apparently was no general info meeting on 1/7 and the majority of folks there had already had their lapband surgery. They start the meetings off with a question/answer period called "Is this Normal" for folks who have already had it. Then the facilitator (who is a bariatric dietician for St. Mary's) when fill us in on any happenings. There is usually a guest speaker and at the end they ask people who have lost x amount of weight to stand, state how much they have lost and when they had surgery. Sometimes with schedule it is hard for me to attend but I have been experiencing a major plateau (lost 7.5 pounds in 3 months although have lost inches) so I decided I needed a little encouragement and review of the rules.

I was just approved fr the Lap Band. Me and my husand want to have it at the same time. He has more need then myself but the denied him due to his dietary habits. Don't all over weight people eat wrong. I guess we will be appealing for him. We are also going to St. Mary's they have been great so far Pre Surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
