Not feeling full?

Recommended Posts

I’m exactly 1 week post op. I do not feel full at all, ever. I catch myself gulping Water and remember that I’m supposed to carefully sip. Instructions are to sip my Protein Shakes slowly. 1 once over 15 minutes… but why? from the moment I woke up in recovery, I had pain on my incision marks but I do not feel like my stomach is any different at All. I do follow the portion sizes for the full liquid diet, but I almost suspect that my stomach was not operated on at all. Is this normal?

Your stomach is still healing and for some people it's hard to feel 'full' on liquids. Some people don't feel 'full' until they are either on pureed or soft foods. For reference, my own surgery has a VSG stomach... just with an added intestinal bypass bit.

With the liquid after surgery I felt nothing. No hungar no full. Started soft foods. Again didnt feel full nor hungrary. It wasnt until I started eating chicken and eggs that I started filling restriction or full. I had my sleeve surgery July 8th. So fast forward to 2 months I get full very fast and I dont really feel hungrary. This week I fill like I want more calories and thats happened before. Trust me you feel full and uncomfrtable full if u eat more then u should

Liquids pass through your tummy much more quickly than solid foods & because you’re sipping slowly as well you’re tummy won’t actually get full. It is important to sip & be conscious of your eating & drinking (good practice for the whole process) - remember all the stitches & staples holding your poor tummy & digestive system together.

Once you get to soft & solid foods you’ll start to feel you’ve had enough.

I have a similar experience with Water. After the first couple days I can pretty much drink water at will, any amount I want without any restriction or pain. I too thought WTF is going on and wondered what the point of the surgery was. Then, I tried solid food. If I eat too fast, eat something that is dry or take too big of a bite I feel it in the middle of my chest. It is pain and feels obstructed but I think in reality it is the esophagus constricting to get the food down. I am now eating very slowly...chew 30-40 times, small bites and I am able to get down about 4 ounces of food at a time. It seems to be working well for me as over the two weeks since surgery I have lost 17 pounds after I lost all the Fluid weight from surgery. I am hardly hungry at all and even if I feel hungry, the excitement of the weight loss makes me move on from eating if I am over say 700 calories for the day.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
