How long did your incisions hurt?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, just wondering how long people's incisions hurt after vsg?

Bonus question. How long did you feel twinges or a little ache in your stomach area?

Context:I get that after I eat, I'm so bloody worried I'm doing damage and I'm gonna get a leak... but I'm seeing my surgeon on Wednesday. I wonder if he'll let me get another gastroscopy, just to check it out and make sure... My incisions are also still quite tender! Vsg on 18 August.

Hi GottaLearnToSlowDown!

I think my incisions were sore for the first week, but the bigger incision where the stomach was removed (belly button in my case) was sore for 2 weeks. After the first few days it was mostly when moving, clothes touching it, & it was touched. It was slightly sore to the touch in third week also and still had bruising.

As for twinges in the belly area, I felt those often the first week. Then after that I felt them after drinking a few sips of a liquid close together. I usually stop and wait a few minutes before another sip. Once I started soft foods & solid foods, I usually feel them when (I think) my stomach is telling me it is time to stop eating. Soon after that I often get hiccups, too. I am only about a month ahead of you, so I am not sure if the twinges fade, or if they are just a signal to stop eating or drinking at the moment. It may be different for everyone, too.

Congratulations on your surgery & hope your incisions feel better soon. Good luck!😁🍀

if there's a leak, they usually discover those right away - like with a day or so after surgery. Plus I believe the side effects from that are things like extreme weakness, nausea and vomiting, rapid heartbeat - so it doesn't sound like what you've been experiencing. What you're feeling is probably normal, but it's good to ask surgeon anyway - if nothing else, for peace of mind.

My incisions were tender for about a month. Your internal stitches take about a month+ to fully dissolve while the incision sites on your belly that are glued shut take about 2-3 weeks to heal.

My biggest incision and internal stitches near it hurt for about 6 weeks. I was worried about it, but the dr wasn’t. He was right. Im about 11 weeks out and it’s fine now. I do HIIT workouts and ab workouts with no pain.

I loss 19 pounds my first 7 days post op 🙌🏽 (Water weight or real weight.. weight is weight to me.. I’ll take it lol) I make sure I keep my water with me 24.7 and I walk every chance I get. I cook dinner for my kids with no problems. I have zero cravings!  By next week I should be in the 200’s. Haven’t been there since high school 🥲

Well, starting day 2 after surgery. Felling hunger pains again this morning and nausea, no vomiting. I think the hunger pains are coming from my stomach and not my pouch. Think I will call their hotline and speak with them about it. It is not terribly bad but it is uncomfortable. I do not regret getting the surgery though. I expected some discomfort right after, I just didn't expect the hunger pains.

I have two initial consultations coming up. November 30th I am traveling to Richmond Virginia to VCU and on December 2nd I am consulting with a bariatric surgeon in Salem Virginia.
Let's hope my insurance is good for this decision.
I wanted an extended tummy tuck but I cannot justify the out of pocket expense yet. Pray for me.
