3 weeks post-revision and terrified

Recommended Posts

I had RNY in 2007, went from 325 to 170 and kept if off for 11 years, which felt awesome. When I had my baby (225 lbs) I just never took the baby weight off, got lax and gained a 50 lbs of weight on top of that. I had a revision to the bypass to reduce my stomach size and really want to get below 200lbs again. So far am down to 255 from 275 day of surgery but am struggling with weakness. Eating soft foods now and hovering below 600 calories a day with 30 minutes of walking. Should I be eating less? Exercising more? I forget everything I did in 2007 to be successful and am still in shock that I’m back here again. Thank you.

I am assuming you are only a few weeks out from surgery (sorry couldn’t see your surgery date anywhere), in which case I felt weak and dizzy until I was able to eat between 600 to 700 calories a day, but I was told by my doctor not to exercise, except for walking, until the 3 month mark.

Your body is still healing and just needs time. As you can eat more, it should get better.

The only advice I can give is to track everything you are eating, if you aren’t already, to make sure you are getting enough Protein, hitting your Water target and taking your Vitamins.

Good luck and look forward to hearing about your revision journey.

Focus on getting your fluids and Protein, not on calories. Do what you can without obsessing. Your calories and energy will follow as you are gradually able to tolerate more. Don't try to do anything more than walking (as tolerated) for the time being.

Congratulations on your revision! I’m 4 weeks out from RNY. I was getting dizzy and tired during my long days at work. I found eating more often helped a lot. My sweet spot seems to be 70-90 grams Protein and 700-900 calories. My job is so active that I just exercise 15 minutes right now, and that’s only because I feel ready. You may find a different sweet spot for yourself. Be patient and keep trying to find what works for you.

Now, if I could get “regular “ again…

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
