Things to get before and after surgery recommendations

Recommended Posts

I've never used collagen. I did get my Vitamins plus a couple things of Protein Powder. You probably won't need too much - mostly enough to get you through the first couple of days. I was driving again by the time I was a week out, so I was able to pick up more things then.

so surgery is soon what Vitamins and Protein , collagen and things to get for surgery and after that you will need

based peoples experiences

Before surgery :

1. Get organized - Remove everything you don’t want around especially tempting foods and drinks.

2. Get a tape measure- This can supplement weighing and track your physical changes which can be huge even if not reflected on the scale

3. Photos - Taking pictures to compare your progress can be very helpful for motivation and celebrating.

4. Ask questions - Ask your team questions on everything you are uncertain about.

After Surgery:

1. Continue to take photos and measurements weekly/monthly to have a visual way to track your progress.

2. Donate/sell clothes you cannot fit.
3. Continue to ask questions until you are comfortable with the details of your new lifestyle.

Good Luck ❤️

I bought 2 oz. cups with lids to keep my portions small. I also bought some baby food spoons so I wouldn’t accidentally eat too much at once. It has worked very well for me. Also the unflavored Isopure Protein powder for mixing with cold foods like sugar free pudding, etc…

Good luck with your journey!

Make sure you have enough Protein Shakes to last for one or two weeks...I WAY over bought and have had to throw expired stuff away. Even if you like something before surgery, there is no guarantee you will like it after! However, I second the 2 oz cups with lids. I still use those for nuts, salad dressings, etc and right after surgery, I used them for sugar free Jello mixed with GENEPRO Protein powder.

I just bought a case of premier clear to drink and that was pretty much it.

While in the hospital I was glad I brought a super long charging cable for phone and iPad. After surgery I made use of plastic portion cups starting with two ounce ones. Don’t stock ip too much on food or shakes as your tastes may change (especially for sweet things).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
