How do you get through the rough days????

Recommended Posts

I finally had my surgery (RYGB) on June 8th and up until today I have been energetic and optimistic. When I woke up today (Day 9) I felt lousy. I had restless leg all night. I was freezing and hot at the same time. I was queasy and nothing tasted good or even edible. My stomach itches and burns. I can't get comfortable in any position. Most of all I am stressed out because I can't seem to get enough Protein and enough fluids in one day.

Help Me!!!! I'm losing it! I have been crying all day despite my families support. They have no idea what i'm going through.

If you are freezing/hot at the same time, you might want to see if you have a fever, which could be a sign of an infection. If so, you should call your surgeon. Also, if you're not getting enough Protein and fluids, you could be dehydrated. Did the surgery center give you a list of things to watch out for in terms of dehydration? Good luck, feel better!

This too shall pass. I was an emotional mess after surgery since I did not expect the pain level or general uncomfortableness. I focused in more on people that seemed to have had almost no pain and everything was a breeze and thought that would be me. I also had odd reactions to the anti nausea meds they sent me home with and was very dizzy/couldn’t see straight until I was told not to take them anymore by my surgeon.

Also, track your progress! Don’t just use the scale, track your Water consumption to see if you’re reaching/surpassing goals. Do measurements. Invest in a scale that measures body composition. Create a calendar where you mark off days on your journey for certain food goals and changes.

If you feel something isn’t right, call your surgeon’s office! Chills can be a sign of other issues like lizonaplane said. Don’t be afraid to report this and ask questions. There may be something that they can do to make you more comfortable.

This is me! I had my sleeve 6/1 and I keep waiting for that energy boost everyone talks about. I have trouble even wanting to eat anything too. And Iiquids…ugh. I was never a big Water drinker before surgery so trying to get my liquids in is so difficult. Someone in my hospital support group mentioned IV therapy and I’m seriously considering doing it because I cannot keep feeling so bleh.

I had to go get an IV due to dehydration the first week home from surgery. It might be worth checking in with your doctor and see if they would recommend it. I was having very little urine output so it was the right decision for me at the time.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
