Hungry? When did everyone's hungry start once they were banded?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Monday, 12/3/2007. I was on clear for 48 hours then only fluids (like shakes) until today. Today I get to have mushies. My question is...when did the hungry start for everyone? I'm not hungry. I have to force myself to sip my shakes, Water, etc. I nibbled on scrambed eggs this morning. They were yummy; but I wasn't hungry and knew I had to eat so I did. Thanks!

I think everyone is different, but I was hungry almost right away. I feel better now that I can get in more Protein and I don't have that starving feeling that I had for a few days starting around day 5 or so.

I was banded on 11/20. My hunger returned after about 2 weeks. My surgeon said to increase the amount of Protein I'm consuming, and to always remember "protein 1st". My first fill is on 1/3. I hope this helps with the hunger. I'm also on the mushie diet. I have found that if I eat more protein that I'm fuller longer. My portion size is definately a fraction of what it used to be, but I tend to get hungry about every 2 - 3 hours.

I was super hungry while I was on liquids only. But then, once I was able to move onto mushies that seemed to satisfy me and I wasn't very hungry anymore.

today is day 11 since i'm banded....I AM STARVING!!! still on clear liquids....i am living on egg drop soup...jello....sf pops.... and i am ready for my go ahead to move on to soft foods!! ...my appt is Tuesday and i'm counting the hours lol...i cannot have Protein shakes..... no more liquid calories is the rule my dr pushes... i did get me some sf hot chocolate and i must say thats a wonderful treat...even though i'm in louisiana and its 80 degrees outside today. my fear is that i can drink about a whole cup of Soup before i feel full.... maybe because its going straight through the stoma? i dont think the pouch holds the liquids...i cant wait to eat eggs lol...the littlest things i want...anyway... gl all

i was banded nov 9, and i really didnt start feeling hunger til the 3rd week. i am on mushies, and i eat eggs, cheese, sf pudding, tuna, chili(no beans...blech) and lots of Soup. today i think i'll magic bullet a chicken breast and see how that goes. pre-band i would have a salad with 3 grilled chicken breast, a whole head of lettuce a can of mushroom sauteed with 1/4 onion. now i cannot fathom eating so much food even in a whole day, much less 1 meal!

My hunger kicked in sometime late the second week. When it did, I just stepped up the amount/frequency I ate, but continued eating the same things (all acceptable) within the parameters of my post op "healing diet". I had very little problem actually.

I am 4 weeks out and the only time I feel true hunger is if I go too long in between meals say longer than 5 hours. I have no Snacks in between meals. I do drink 2 Protein shakes a day one mid morning and one mid afternoon.

I am only eating 3 ounces of food at each meal. I am satisfied with how this holds me at this point. I will know more on Tuesday what my Dr's plan is, as I feel I have restriciton somewhat or I would be starved.

But I am listening to my band......and trying to really get rid of the head hunger.....I still have it....I see something and think wow I want that.....when my body is not even the least bit hungry. This is where the will power comes into play with the band.

I know the road will be a long one, but I am truly going to enjoy every step of this journey.:clap2:

I'm almost six weeks out from surgery and, like Kristin, I'm only hungry if I go too long before I eat again. Even then, it's not that ravenous hunger I used to get. As soon as I eat, it goes away and I'm not hungry again for hours.

Today I had scrambled Egg Beaters and a piece of toast for Breakfast at around 10 a.m. and then turkey chili, crackers, and applesauce for dinner around 6:30. I used to be a constant snacker so this is amazing to me! I haven't even had a fill yet!

I was hungry a couple days after the surgery. I don't know if it's because I heal well or what, but I was expecting the hunger to stay away for at least 2 weeks. By the 2 week period I was REALLY hungry. And now that I'm over 5 weeks out, the hunger is strong, goes away somewhat easy, and returns like magic within 5-10 mins of being full (because of the food slipping through the band so easily I would imagine).

I'm four weeks out and still not really "hungry". My stomach growls like crazy, but to me that's not "hunger". Unless there is something REALLY tempting right in front of me, I am pretty indifferent to food. It's GREAT.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
