Slippage, erosion....what?? I have no idea!

Recommended Posts

Ok here is my story. I was banded in May of 05. I have never LET myself LET the band work for me. I started out at 260, I am 271, been all the way to 218.....

Band is too tight, then not tight enough. So in August I was like ok....got it tight, had perfect restriction, lost about 20 lbs in a couple months....then no restriction at all. I mean I could eat a Big Mac if I wanted and I have not been able to eat bread since I was banded. So I went and had band tightened and the dr didnt seem concerned. That was early Nov and I still have no restriction. I mean NONE. Hungry all the time, can eat anything and as much as I did before being banded.

The only signs I notice are diarrea, acid reflux, and heartburn. Not all the time, but enough for me to notice.

I think I am going to wait until after the holidays to deal with all this but I am sure there is something wrong. I was banded in FL and live in SC now seeing a Dr in Charlotte. Any suggestions, ideas, questions, let me know. Thanks

I would suggest scheduling an endoscopy for as early in January as you can....those sound like my exact symptoms of erosion. I had no restriction, and they could not see the erosion in 3 upper GI's under fluoro with barium. I gained half the weight back I lost. THen when they found it, they had to do emergency surgery to get it out and fix the hole it made in my stomach....please schedule an endoscopy, better safe than sorry!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
