Hi all,

Pre-op weight was 298. Weight on day of surgery (4/27) was 289. Current weight is 271.

I’ve been at 271 for 2 weeks now. Any advice? Did anyone else go through this?

almost everyone has that early stall soon after surgery (it's usually the third week, thus we call it "the three week stall", but for some it comes earlier or later). Just stick to your plan, stay off the scale for a few days, and know that it will break and you'll be on your way again. It'll last 1-3 weeks. Mine was weeks 2 & 3 after surgery. During week 4, it broke and I dropped like 6-8 lbs almost overnight.

P.S. if you do a search on this site of the three week stall, you will find something like 17,500 posts on it. And no, I am NOT kidding.

It happens to everyone. Just stick with the plan and before you know it the weight will start dropping again.

Yep, like everyone has said, it's definitely a thing. I'm about 7 weeks post op, surgery was 4/15, and for the last 2-3 weeks, I experienced zero weight loss. I'd been following my diet religiously, exercising etc. About 3 days ago the scale finally moved, but instead of seeing a 3-4lb difference like I was in the beginning, I'm only dropping one pound at a time. But, this is fine with me, as long as things are moving! Trust me, I know it's disheartening, and you're wondering how it could be physically possible to not lose weight while eating so little. You may think you're "doing it wrong" or the surgery didn't work (lol), but in actuality, your body is finally done purging the glycogen and Water stores and is now using fat for energy. After your body makes that adjustment, the weight loss will continue.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
