Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Anyone else having the surgery on the same day as me?

My work colleague is also having it done, 5 days before me.

I am so excited to be doing this!

I'm May 12th as well! My pre-op diet officially starts Wednesday as well but I've opted to start today. Thursday I go for my endoscopy. I'm excited but I'm also super nervous especially with how real it's all starting to feel now.

This is great! Four of us with the same surgery dates. My surgery is also on May 12th and I started the pre-op diet today.

Starting day 5 of the pre-op. I have more energy, though still fatigue easily. I've had a low grade headache and broke down and had a cup of green tea this morning because I'm pretty sure it's a caffeine withdrawal. (Already the headache is subsiding). The diet DOES get easier with each passing day so I'm feeling confident that I'll be able to manage the after-surgery diet restrictions. I'm noticing my weight dropping and joint pain easing, a big bonus.

Hang in there, all. We can do this!

My surgery is May 10. Started the diet yesterday. Staying pretty hungry!

It took about 3 days before I started to lose the hunger feeling. As much as I get sick of the Protein Shakes, I just force myself to drink one when I start getting a hunger signal. Right now, my cravings have diminished (I'm sure it comes and goes) and I actually walked through the grocery store yesterday without being miserable looking at everything I couldn't have... that seems like a milestone. Every day there's improvement. Hang in there!

How are you all going with the pre-op diet? I started my 3 shakes a day today. I can have veggies in between meals so I think that will help reduce my hunger... we shall see.

We have a week to go!!! Yay!!!

Mine is going well for the most part. I'm lucky in that my diet is easier than most I see on here. I get shake for Breakfast, mid morning high Protein snack, shake for lunch, afternoon high protein snack, dinner is 6oz lean protein, veggie, and small carb then another shake at night if needed. I'm super grateful I have the meal and Snacks built in it definitely helps. I did have a hangry moment yesterday where I ate one of my son's 80 calorie pirates booty bags (I think it's PMS) but I'm back on track now and confident one snag won't destroy my liver shrink.

I'm in a place where I'm feeling less nervous lately but we'll see how it feels when it's only 1-2 days left.

I have been drinking two to three Protein Shakes a day and some days eating two scrambled eggs. I screwed up last night and ate a cookie. My surgery is May 9th.

Excited to finally be at the point I've been waiting for but also increasingly nervous. Like I know rationally the risk is relatively low but I have a small child at home and I'm still nervous about something going wrong, or recovery being worse than I'm anticipating. I'm trying to mentally prepare to feel like crap for a week so then if it's better it'll be a pleasant surprise.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
