Feeling a lot better than yesterday. Don't know what I'd do without the pain drugs. Been taking 10 minute walks and resting for a while in between. I'm SO tired, though!

Getting Water down is a chore lol the feeling is so weird! Let alone broth and popsicles and stuff

Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using BariatricPal mobile app

Hang in there! I promise it gets better! 😊

Hi everyone! My gastric bypass is the 27th, my birthday actually!. Very anxious and nervous...researched went back and forth over a year and finally decided to do it and was positive about it. Now second guessing things like I’m afraid I won’t be normal and go out to lunch w the girls and enjoy vacations!! I do know that it will get better and those things will happen again but I suppose need some reassurance right now. Can anyone weigh in (no pun intended😆) as to some positive experiences getting back to solid food and feeling normal again?

Well for the first couple months things are not normal but I am about 10 weeks out now and I can eat pretty much everything I did before surgery. I haven’t yet attempted steak, bread, rice or popcorn because they are on the list but other than that I can eat normal. I just feel like I eat my husbands plate instead of mine now. He is super thin and fit and I eat about the same as he does naturally.

Thank you. That’s really good to hear that once you get over the hurdle of first two months, life can feel back to normal but with smaller portions! I’m great with that. I guess it’s just the jitters!

So excited for tomorrow! And so nervous something will fall through at the very last minute! Lol. Won't be able to sleep tonight, just like the first day of school.

Hey—I had my surgery May 3rd, too. I am a university professor, so I scheduled mine to coincide with when I am off contract, but I would not have wanted to go back to work this week. At my 2 week post-op appointment, my doctor was concerned with my fatigue and weakness. They sent me to get fluids and Vitamins yesterday at the hospital. i was so mad to be readmitted for the day, but honestly, I feel a thousand percent better. I have more energy and can tolerate pureed food now. I say take the whole month, but if you need a boost then talk to your doctor about fluids—it really gave me the boost I needed to just feel “normal” again!

I had my surgery this morning. Going back to work Monday. However, I work from home and have a desk job. My boss knows I may need to lay down l, rest or walk throughout the day. I don’t get any paid time off where I work

I should find out my surgery date in the next couple days, hoping for May 31 (original date was May 3) I am fortunate to have paid sick time and plan to take 4 weeks.

Surgery went well this morning. But this pain and discomfort from the gas is no joke! Originally, in the am, I thought I was having bad burning from acid and complained. Turned out it was just from the gas since walking around helped some. I feel like I'm walking a few minutes twice in each 30 min time span. Still lots of gas. Will be glad when it's gone. So far I've only had Water and doing well getting it down. Was so tired during the day and fell in and out of sleep much of the day but in spurts of about 5 min. Finally tonight I fell asleep for like an hour but now I'm wide awake again. I think due to the Tylenol is wearing off.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
