No motivation to work out 6 weeks out

I still have low energy and I’m a bit lazy (thanks depression!) but working out and exercising has ALWAYS made me nauseous before surgery. I tried googling to see what it might be but nothing has helped. Anyways I’m trying to tone my body now, I told myself that this week I was going to start working out but I give up in 1 minute because I’m so winded. Anyone have any tips about the nausea and motivation?

Not sure about the nausea, but for me making exercise part of my routine helped with motivation. If it’s part of my routine, I don’t even get to consider skipping it. In fact, skipping a workout kind of messed up my day after I made it part of my routine. I would pick the days, times, and type of exercise you plan to do and do it for every time you plan it. I would get up 2 hours early in the morning to get a workout in.

I completely understand, but start small so you don’t get overwhelmed. Start with 10 minutes of walking or some other exercise 3 times a week and you can increase from there.

I too had a hard time getting back in the gym around the end of week 6. First workout was probably 20 minutes...that was all I had but better than nothing. I was incredibly sore after that first workout. With Covid then surgery it had been year. Back in the gym now! Makes me feel so much better!!

Not sure what you are doing when working out but don't set the bar too high. Try to start walking each day. Start with a 10-15 minute walk then the next day match it and the day after maybe add 5 more minutes to the walk. I started this way and can now walk 20-30+ minutes at a time without being too winded. Let yourself build into it. Try walking listening to music or a good audio book. If you have the room in your home and don't want to walk outside yet, consider the purchase of a treadmill. You can watch TV and walk:0 Just a few thoughts and whatever you do - don't get down on yourself.

If you are considering a treadmill they make under desk versions that fit under the bed. I keep mine next to the bed which is in the way everytime I get up but I deal with it. Then when I am cleaning up the house and want it to look nice I can just roll it under the bed. If I weren’t too lazy I could do this daily but I’d rather step over it. Lol

Just go do it. You will not be able to do as much yet. I was lifting over an hour before Covid. First time back was 20 minutes...give it a shot but don't try to do too much. Something is better than nothing.

I did it!!! Thanks so much everyone. I did a 27 min walk on the treadmill I burned 137 calories and I just finished another 10 minute at home workout!

Congratulations on your workout! Sometimes the hardest part is starting. I try and consider it part of my new lifestyle and it is part of the game with getting as healthy as possible with the body I want. You’ve got this! 👍🏻

You could make a big expensive purchase like me (#peleton), and feel forced to workout because you are still paying for it :)

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

      Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
