I had my RNY on 03/09- I am having such a hard time getting my fluids in. I always feel full. It takes me 4 hours to drink one bottle of Water. I used to love water, now I can't stand it. SF koolaid is too sweet- SF lemonade is too tart. I am so frustrated and frankly I am having serious buyers remorse. Anyone have any ideas or words of wisdom?

From what I've read on this forum, many (most) of us have a lot of trouble meeting our fluids goals first the first couple of weeks after surgery. It's harder than it looks, and no matter how much you read about it, you can't fully understand until you actually go through it (which is why most surgeons don't understand how hard it is, and give us overly ambitious goals). It got a lot easier for me after the first few weeks. I'm 8 months out now and have no trouble at all drinking fluids. I can drink Water just as quickly as I did before surgery.

I suggest trying warm beverages like tea, coffee, or Protein hot cocoa. My favorite beverage is Crio Bru, which is cacao Beans that you brew like coffee. It's delicious with a little almond milk and sugar-free flavored Syrup. In my early post-op days, I found that warm beverages went down more easily than cold.

Agree, many people have difficulty building up their Fluid intake. Just keep at it, things do improve I promise. I mix half and half apple juice and Water (I actually couldn't stand apple juice before) as plain water just didn't sit well.

Difficulty meeting fluid goals in the first couple of weeks is not uncommon. My surgeon said as long as I was working towards goal & was pretty close most days it was ok. I was a big Water drinker pre surgery but after it was a challenge. I think the changes to our taste buds post surgery contributes. I also found water was almost heavy & sometimes drying. Weird.

I’d sip diluted hydralyte (too sweet at full strength), green tea (sometimes it’s easier to sip warm drinks than cold) & drinking yoghurt. Try freezing some fluids so they’re like a popsicle. Now I also let sparkling water go flat & sip on that for some variety during the day - the mineral taste is more palatable

Don’t forget, all your Soups, shakes, etc, contribute to your Fluid intake too. Try Protein water. Crystal light seems to be pretty popular too.

Good luck.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
