Having trouble eating!nothing tastes good

Recommended Posts

Tommorow will be my third week post op.I start soft foods tomorrow. The problem is I’ve been having trouble eating. Every time I stand up I get so dizzy, and I’m forgetting things a lot.I’ve been taking my vitamins; I don’t know what to eat because I have no appetite ( I know this is normal). Today I tried to heat up some canned chicken noodle Soup ( without the noodles) and I was instantly repulsed by it . Even yogurt I have no interest in eating. I’m just sticking to 2 Protein Shakes a day and sometimes even less. I don’t even know what I’ll eat on soft foods because I don’t eat eggs or tuna. Any advice?

Are you just drinking two Protein Shakes cause they are hard to get down? CauSe they say Protein and Fluid are most important and they were hard for me so I tried the clear protein and found them much easier to drink. I did three a day for 60 g of protein plus whatever Soup or pudding etc I had. But if you are feeling that nauseous maybe you should talk to dr. Maybe he can give rx for nausea.

Hi, no it’s just they’re the only thing I prefer to “eat” that have nutrition. Everything else just grosses me out. Only other thing I eat is sugar free Jello and pudding.I don’t know if I’m nauseous, I’m prescribed omeprazole for the first 30 days after surgery . And yes you’re right my doc did say make sure I get my protein and fluids.

You can add unflavored protein to your pudding. GENEPRO has 7.2grams in a scoop (and the scoop is pretty small) so you could add at least a half if not a full scoop to a pudding?? This doesn’t add any variety which I know your looking for but adding protein may help you feel better to be able to tolorate more variety??

Also on soft foods I am allowed chicken salad. Maybe ask if you can have that??

You need to keep your fluids up, dehydration can explain dizzy and forgetfulness, if possible maybe use a Protein Water.< br />
Try canned chicken instead of tuna. I bought those little wieners in a can and some canned tamales. My nutritionist said soft foods is anything you can cut with "this" as he held up a toddler plastic fork. That discussion was as he told me I could eat shrimp as a soft food.....

I really hope things get better for you.

Try different temperatures of the fluids to get more down. Mine was easiest over Ice but most people have said Warmer is better. Even hot cocoa has been a tip.

I had a problem with getting enough fluids and I called my dr and told him urine was dark and they scheduled me to go back to hospital as outpatient and get two bags of fluids. That really helped.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
