Let’s talk protein shakes!

Recommended Posts

Good morning everyone!

I think everyone would agree, the two week pre-op diet and post-op diet requirements are TOUGH! Especially if you haven’t found a Protein Shake that you actually like. I want to share info about a company I found that has great options!

Ideal Fit ( idealfit.com ) offers many options of whey Protein isolate shakes and clear fruity drinks. I have tried several flavors and LOVE having a choice! Protein shake burn-out can happen so easily! They ship quickly and have 50% off sales all the time. Check out these flavors:

caramel mocha

birthday cake vanilla)

chocolate brownie

Cookies and cream

cold brew coffee

white chocolate peppermint

chocolate mint

chocolate Peanut Butter

red velvet cake

And there are still several flavors I haven’t tried yet! They offer clear protein fruit flavored options that are delicious too!
strawberry

Lemonade

mojito

passion fruit

peach mango

These are nice because they aren’t as heavy as the Protein Shakes and they are easy to get down. I AM NOT GETTING ANY KICK BACKS FROM THE COMPANY FOR SHARING THIS INFO. I just want to share my find with others because I think it makes this journey so much easier and enjoyable. I had the dietitian review the nutritional elements and she confirmed that these shakes have all the required nutrition for bariatric surgery patients.

Now......does anyone know of any Protein Bars that actually taste good??? I’d like an option for those on-the-go days! 😃

When I was drinking two Protein Shakes a day I probably would have looked more into that lol, but I only drink one a day now and I just buy the pre-made ones from Walmart. No muss, no fuss.

As to Protein bars... I buy the Think brand protein bars. Specifically the 10g protein ones because they're less calories, fat, etc. My favorite flavor is Salted Caramel. However, I have had the 20g ones a few times in the Brownie Crunch flavor. Honestly, the Think brand is like dessert. It's delicious! And I only buy the Brownie ones when I'm having a brownie craving lol. Usually the Salted Caramel ones suit my dessert craving though (150 calories for the Salted Caramel verses the Brownie crunch with 230 calories). I've also bought Atkins protein bars. The snickerdoodle and triple chocolate ones are my go-to when I buy those.

Before my surgery, I ordered a bunch of samples of Protein Shakes, and I also ended up liking IdealLean the best. I've purchased some tubs from them (chocolate brownie, birthday cake, and chocolate coconut). It is also relatively inexpensive (they inflate their "regular" price, so it's always "on sale"). I like to mix the birthday cake Protein into Greek yogurt.

I recently got a sample pack of LadyBoss Lean, and it is quite tasty, but I don't think I'll buy any more because it's expensive and the macros aren't as good as IdealLean.

As for protein bars, I am OBSESSED with Built Bars. They are amazing. They taste like candy bars. Every time I bite into one, I marvel at how it's possible for something kinda healthy to taste so incredible. They have 18 regular flavors and they frequently put out limited release flavors. Their two newest ones, cookie dough and coconut brownie chunk, are the best ones yet. There are some people who don't like the texture, so I'd recommend trying one box before you stock up on multiple cases, but I love love love them.

I've also heard good things about Alani Nu protein bars and FitFactor protein bars, but I haven't tried them because I already have over 300 Built bars in my house and don't need to be buying any more protein bars right now.😁

I’ve never heard of the Think brand. Do you get them at Walmart? Most brands I have tried just have a horrible taste, and I know there must be better options out there! Thank you for your suggestion, I’ll look into those.

Thanks Big Sue (although it looks like Little Sue is a better fit...congrats!)

I will definitely look into those Built bars! I LOVE chocolate coconut!! Thank you!
P.S. I never thought of adding the Protein Powder to my Greek yogurt! Hmmm, I’m going to give that a try too!

I like the Quest Hero bars (regular Quest bars are OK - but I love the Hero line), Robert Irvine's Fit Crunch bars, and Power Crunch bars (esp the salted caramel flavor)

I second the vote on Built Bars. Hubby is not a WLS patient and he also loves them. My favorite is orange, but I have yet to find a flavor I don’t like. I prefer the flavors without nuts. Just a personal preference.

My favorite flavors of the Protein Shakes listed above are:

white chocolate peppermint

chocolate mint

chocolate Peanut Butter

I also like pure Protein protein bars. They are very high in protein and lower sugar which I have to have for prediabetes.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
