Pain in back between amd at shoulder blades

Recommended Posts

I had surgery 2/8 and I can keep liquids down and am fine but I have this pressure and pain in my back right between shoulder blades. Directly behind the area between my breasts. Is this telling me I over did it?

I had the same thing, and assumed it was still trapped gas. I took some Tylenol and felt better the next day. Good luck!

Diaphragmatic irritation can result in pain that radiates to the shoulder. When they do a sleeve surgery, they routinely correct the opening through your diaphragm so the new tube stomach won't slip up into your chest. It is very common to feel pain in the back of the shoulder after a surgery involving the diaphragm like sleeve surgery. It will be better in a few days as it heals. I had a big ole hiatal hernia fixed with my sleeve surgery...and I feel your pain.

Can this pain be on the top of the shoulder? I also had a hiatal hernia fixed with my sleeve on 2/1 and I have pain on the top of my shoulder like between the shoulder and neck. I am going for my first follow up today so I plan on asking my surgeon when I am there.

Doc said mine is due to the hiatal hernia repair that was done during my sleeve surgery.

My pain was left shoulder blade area and neck, they told me it was either gas or referral pain when I was in the hospital. It took a good few weeks for it to stop completely.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
