I weigh myself very infrequently. I just did and I am 265. I’ve lost about 30 pounds since surgery on March 24 (so it’s been about 5 weeks) . The big number is from my highest weight though. I’ve lost 65 pounds from my highest “I am so out of control ....eye opening .....need to get my life together” moment. Lol

Furthering my determination to be successful: I was just informed yesterday that my brother (who is only 1 year older than myself) is going into dialysis due to kidney failure. I have kidney disease as well..... we both got it from my dad.... who got it from HIS dad. My grandfather died at 42 due to kidney failure and his symptoms were sever just like my brother. my brother is a healthy weight but his kidney issues are worse than mine.
One reason for my decision to get surgery was because it would help preserve my kidneys and make them function better. That reasoning is now at the forefront in light of what my brother is now going through. I just got a big reality check. So glad I did this.

I’m in the midst of a stall I think...... so I’m just waiting for it to get moving again.
I started exercising more this last week (I couldn’t earlier due to blood pressure issues) so I’m hoping that it jumpstarts my body again.

How many ounces can you take in of solids at once? I can have about one and a half ounces of chicken and a few bites of potatoes and I’m done. Fish I can have a bit more at two ounces. Two egg whites is too much for me to eat at once and I have to stick to one hard boiled egg white for lunch (that’s it, just a hard boiled egg white)
I feel as though their expectations are a tad much. They are saying 2 meals, two Protein supplements, and 1-2 Snacks. The serving size for my upcoming stage is 2-3 ounces of protein and a quarter cup of veggies/side dish and there is just no way that’s going to happen... I can barely choke down HALF the protein without feeling full. 😬

So my “tiny jeans that didn’t fit pre surgery” are now too big lol.
thankfully I have a **** ton of leggings that will hold me over because I won’t be buying clothes until my weight is more stabilized.
I started off as a size 24 (those were getting tight) and my smaller jeans are some strange sizing so I don’t have an accurate measurement there. I DO know that I was wearing an XXXL in PJ pants and my mom just gave me some XL PJ pants that were too long for her and they totally fit me. So I went from a 3x to a XL in about five weeks.
I still have another 65 pounds to loose.
oh..... and I had some smaller bras floating around. My boobs have officially shrunk lol. Kinda knew that was a guarantee though.

I’m so excited!!!! They called me today to schedule my surgery for June 2nd. Wow that’s soon. I thought she was going to say July. I do have a pre-op appointment next week. What does that consist of? Do they just talk about surgery?

Congrats on finally getting there!!! I’m So excited for you.
For my pre op he confirmed what surgery I was doing, he confirmed if I still wanted surgery, he also went over my medications, he explained about the surgery process. He explained about the pre surgery diet. He made sure I understood that this was a lifestyle change and made sure I was aware that I couldn’t eat certain things.
They took vitals.... the basic stuff.

it was no big deal. I had two pre ops. I had one over the phone.... and then I had to go for my pre surgical one a week or so before surgery.

My pre op diet only needed to be two days. I’m not going to lie: toughest thing ever. Nothing but Clear Liquids for two days was torture. The people that do that for two weeks are rock stars. lol

I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. To look people in the eye and honestly tell them I am doing great is amazing. Before I had chronic pain that was excruciating ALL THE TIME and I would smile..... I was go through the motions and tell them I’m good..... but I was lying. I’m not lying anymore.

I just applied for more teaching positions (getting a job with my weight and health things.... it was impossible. They always chose the skinny blond. Always. It was really upsetting to me every time I got passed over even though I had the experience and the skinny blond didn’t... they had zero experience and were fresh out of school. Unfortunately discrimination because of weight is still legal.)
so hopefully things change this year. I’ve got much more confidence in myself now

I am so glad everything is going so well for you. You hear some people having a hard time after surgery, but you make my stress go away. I too have chronic pain and to hear that its better for you is awesome. Hope you find some teaching jobs. Jobs should go to who is qualified not who looks better. You are there to teach not to have a fashion show. Good luck to you. I’m sure you will find something soon and it will be great.
I hope my surgery goes smoothly and with no complications. Im so excited.

This was my last ditch effort to make the pain go away. I admit I was skeptical lol.
I knew it would lesson the pain but I didn’t expect it to completely go away, especially not THIS quickly.
I am only 38 and they were talking joint replacements but my weight was an issue.., as well as my young age. Now I’m good and I no longer even need to look at joint replacements. If I keep up with cortisone shots here and there it will be good for a LONG time.
the first few days after surgery when you have gas is the worst. After you move from that it gets better

The stalls are no joke. I was stuck in a stall for a while (I was at 266-264 for a long time over a week… possibly more) and then I stepped on the scale this morning and I weigh in at 258. That major drop happened in only a few days. Lol

No I didn’t have to quarantine but I did have to take a covid test. Do you have to quarantine? I worked up until the Friday before my surgery (surgery was on Wednesday). I didn’t want to deal with the liquid pre op diet and working at the same time.
how long is your liquid diet before hand?

They didnt say I had to quarantine, but I work at a bank and around a lot of people. So not sure if I should just work from home before my Covid test on 31st. I only have to do the day before surgery liquids only.

I pretty much stayed home after my covid test…… but it wasn’t mandatory. Lol- I was just lazy and didn’t want to go anywhere. But I still had contact with my kids who were in school so yeah…. No quarantine.
do what you are comfortable with. If you had the option to work at home I would totally take advantage of that. 🤷🏼‍♀️

you are in good company for liquid diets… I am back on a liquid diet after my second covid shot. I had an allergic reaction and broke out in hives. They were even in my throat 😭 so I’m on liquids until they go away

(my first shot I noticed some spots but I thought they were flea bites! Second shot? WAY WORSE allergic reaction… praying that they aren’t going to require a booster !)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
