How long before I can enjoy a meal again?

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 months out and still cannot eat "comfortably". Every time I take a sip of a liquid or a bite of food (always well-chewed, very small bites) I have discomfort. Not all-out pain, but discomfort, like an ache. I now dread eating as it is no longer enjoyable or even satisfying, and I don't mean that I miss fried, heavy food, or junk food (I'm eating very clean), but just eating anything is a chore. Will this ever go away, or is this just how it is forever? I'm also burping A LOT. Every time I swallow something - doesn't matter if it's liquid or solid food - I'm burping and belching like crazy, and it's uncontrollable. Does this ever go away?

Which surgery did you have? It sounds like you might have GERD. I would talk to your surgeon about it and see if meds can help?

Yeah I'll be 5 months out next week and I haven't had any discomfort since the first month or so as long as I don't eat or drink too fast. It sounds like you might have something else going on. I'd give the surgeon a call. I hope you find answers and relief!

I had gastric sleeve. I've had constant discomfort (when eating & drinking) since the surgery. It's not nearly as bad as the weeks immediately following surgery, but it's ALWAYS there. I did ask about GERD, but was told that wasn't likely. 🤷‍♀️ They suggested a possible upper-endoscopy, but I don't know... The last thing I need is more medical bills and they don't seem willing to try anything like medication.

I had the same thing happen. Sleeve Surgery in 2016. 6 weeks out I started having those same issue. Now I’m about to have a revision to bypass because Gerd is a side effect of the sleeve. I’m having to go back through the whole process again...

Ugh... I'm so sorry you have to go thru another surgery. I don't think I could deal with that. At this point, the pain isn't that severe, it's just constant and annoying. I don't get a "full" feeling like I did pre-op. Instead, I have to really pay attention when I eat as I get the discomfort every time I eat or drink, and the only way I know I'm full is when the discomfort gets really bad. It's so annoying! Good luck with your revision!

I had GERD before my sleeve and my dr fixed a hiatal hernia (Nissen) at the same time as my sleeve. I have small bubbles coming up and I'm on my reflux meds for a couple more months until I'm healed, but no more belching. Previously, I could belch anyone to shame it was so bad. You could simply try OTC pepcid if you don't want go to the dr right away. If that offers a little relief you might consider going in for an RX, GERD is not fun.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
