Monthly Cycles 3 month post op

Recommended Posts

Just wondering how my fellow female's cycles are going. I got an IUD about 2 years ago, haven't had a cycle until a month post op(about 3 months ago). I had 2 and now I missed my cycle this month. How crazy has your cycle been since weight loss? Did it ever go back to normal and if when how long did it take? Thanks.

weird hormone things are pretty common after surgery. Supposedly it's because estrogen is stored in fat, and when you have a rapid weight loss, a bunch of it gets released. Many women experience mood swings and screwed up menstrual cycles the first few months after surgery. But yes - it does stabilize after awhile.

I've had an IUD in for 5 years prior to having the surgery. I did not have a period in all that time. Now, 3 months post op I'm getting them randomly (and multiple spotting events in a month) and I really hate it. I have ruined underwear that doesn't fit me anymore which isn't a problem but when I gave in and bought new underwear I accidentally ruined that. I finally gave in and bought tampons and will have to buy panty liners to save my new undies. I had a post op visit today and the doctor just threw up her hands and was like, "We can never guess what it will do to you" and she was happy that I understood the random nature of the recovery process.

Good luck. I'm following this thread for anyone who has answers because I'm looking for them too!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
