Revision to Bypass due to Gerd

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I had the gastric sleeve September 2017 and I have lost about 60 lbs. I've had the worst issue with Gerd and taking medicine everyday sucks, also concerned with the long-term effects of the taking the medication. I had an EGD and have gastric sleeve stenosis and angulation of the incisura. Doctor says the only way to correct the issue is to have a gastric bypass. I am so nervous about doing this all over again and was scared that I would lose too much weight. He advised that I wouldn't lose that much.

Can anyone give me details about their experience with their revision to Bypass? How was the transition?

Revision surgery was the best thing I ever did to reduce my GERD. I was only 8 months post VSG when I had my revision so still in weight loss so I can’t answer the question as to whether or not it’ll cause further weight loss for you. I’m almost 3 months post VSG to RNY revision and I’ll admit I only take my protonix when I remember and will be talking with my surgeon about discontinuing it at my next visit. Before revision surgery I was taking 2 40mg protonix, 60mg Pepcid, and upwards of 12 tums a day. I also no longer aspirate while sleeping and I don’t have any more hiccups that were worsening daily for over 4 months for which I’m sure my coworkers are also grateful!

Wow my Gerd is not that severe, as long as I take the medicine I'm ok for the most part. Prior to that I would aspirate while sleeping the worst feeling ever. Thanks for the information.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
