What's the Verdict on Triscuits?

Recommended Posts

I've read mixed reviews on eating Triscuits. Several people reported them getting "stuck" and causing serious vomiting issues, while others reported no problems. I'm about 5 weeks out and I'm dying for something crunchy that I can put hummus on. If Triscuits are a big no-no (even low fat, low sodium ones), what's a good replacement? Tired of eating hummus by the spoonful. 😞

P.S. I have a meeting with the dietician tomorrow and will bring this up as well.

Yes, bring it up with your Doc/Nut, and follow their plan. Following your plan, particularly early on, is where your success will come from.

If your Doc/Nut say it's OK, as with most things, small bites, chew thoroughly, then chew more.

As an alternative to Triscuits, I loved these 34 Degree crackers. Low cal, low carb & actually taste good. They were a staple during my WL stage with Laughing Cow cheese.

I eat Quest Protein chips... I just had some with avocado. Triscuits are high carb. Don't think they're safe for sleevers, at least in the early stages. Plus I don't think they'd go down very well.

EDIT: What about Whisps parmesan crisps? They might have a similar texture of Triscuits w/o the carb content? They definitely have a strong taste though --- which is unique... and many probably won't like them.

I'll second the Quest Protein chips - I'm just over 4 weeks out and was also craving something crunchy and "zesty" - Friday we made "Bariatric Nachos":

1 bag of Quest tortillas

1 oz of cheddar cheese

2 oz of ground turkey cooked with taco seasoning

About 1 oz of pico (tomatoes and onions)

Put it all in a medium oven safe bowl and cooked for about 4 minutes.

I ate about 4 chips and was MORE than satisfied. Everything i was craving in one small bowl. Husband ate the rest and also agreed it was YUMMY.

I love the Whisps crisps. Very low carb and that satisfying crunch. They are small but you could put your hummus on them.

Love your idea about "Bariatric Nachos"!

Which flavor do you use for this recipe? I eat a bag of Ranch Protein chips every day. I am about to make another order right now, as I only have 3 bags left. I was thinking the taco variety might work well w/this recipe..

I am not the biggest fan of the nacho cheese flavor Quest -- but I don't like Nacho Cheese Doritos either, so it isn't Quest's fault - it just isn't my preference. I am thinking the Loaded Taco would work best for your nacho recipe???

Quest protein chips are insanely goooooood!

I bought them this morning at Target. I wanted to test them out before I committed to buying a 12 pack bag online. I just ate a bag with avocado! They are GOOD. I can totally imagine how good they'll be with taco meat!

I will be making tacos tomorrow.. Thanks so much for the suggestion. I can not believe I didn't think of that. I eat a bag of Quest chips every day (always Ranch flavor) and have for the past 2+ months! They're SO good.

UPDATE!
Hey everyone - so I had my 1 month (actually, 5 week) appointment with the dietician this afternoon. She told me that "one or two Triscuits" with tuna salad or hummus would be fine. I asked about the Quest Protein chips and she told me to avoid them but didn't really say why. She said, "You don't want to get your protein from there". So, I don't know what that's all about. I bought mini smoked gouda Triscuits and will try a couple slowly, knowing they are very dry and can get stuck. She also said Wheat Thins are a good option as well. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
