So done with this stall

I honestly had no idea about this 3 week stall until I started reading peoples posts. Can I be among the many to say it is for the birds. I am on week 5 and my scale hasn't moved in a while. I had to put my scale in closet time out until we could be friends again. I'm just going to keep sticking to my diet and try and get in more exercise for a while. Alright I'm done just needed to get that off my chest.

I never had the three week stall... I had the four (going on 5) MONTH stall. 4 months after I had my surgery I stalled for 23 days! It was soooooo frustrating! I kept thinking what did I do wrong? Why wasn't I losing any more? But then I pulled up my weight loss chart and realized I lost 23 pounds the first month, 19 pounds the second month, 17 pounds the third, and 18 pounds the fourth. I somehow got out of the stall and lost 7 pounds in the last week of that month. I've lost slower ever since, but I still average 1-3 pounds a week instead of the 3-5 like I did in the beginning (i.e. I lost 8 pounds following the stall month, then 10 pounds, and this month I've lost 7 pounds). Stalls suck. They are disheartening and frustrating, but they are just our bodies way of adjusting to the rapid weight loss. It's trying to catch up with us and sometimes our system just needs to take a break. You'll get passed this!

Unfortunately, this won’t be your first stall. I liked to think of a stall as my body playing catch up with my weight loss, reduced diet, etc.: it just needed to take a breath. My longest stall was just short of three weeks when I was a couple of kgs short of my goal - so frustrating. You’re doing the right thing by keeping on your path. The weight loss will start again.

My body fought me tooth and nail but I fought back. I felt like my body got comfortable or settled on a weight for periods of time. I lost weight pretty slowly and I practically came to a screeching halt 6 months in. It was incredibly frustrating. I started reading and researching more. The following videos were probably the biggest help for me personally and still are.

Dr Weiner is a Bariatric surgeon who posts on YouTube. Here are 2 videos that were “lightbulb moments” for me and really helped me understand and stick with it.

Giving up before I reached my goal weight was never an option for me. I began posting and participating on this board at the end of March 2019. I was a lurker for about a year. Shortly after that I joined a gym. Having support here, increasing my activity and feeling more confident about the “why” I’m losing slower made a difference, but most importantly kept me motivated and still does.

Keeping your head in the game when it gets tough is the hardest part of this. You have the right attitude, and you’ve got this. You should consider printIng out your post and putting it in your jewelry box .

I hope you get some reassurance like I did from Dr Weiner’s video.

He actually has a specific video on 4 week stall. Btw, I like his videos because he’s very scientific, factual and good at explaining things.

Thank you so much everyone. I watched those videos and I've seen a few of his other videos before he has some solid advice.

      Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

        I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

      Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
