Marchies In December

Recommended Posts

Happy New Year Marchies! I can't believe how quickly the year passed. I keep hearing that the "window of opportunity" for weight loss is the first year. Has anyone else heard this nasty rumor? I am getting panicked wondering if I will be able to lose all the weight that I need to lose and does weight loss become more difficult after our first anniversary?

I believe the "window of opportunity" applies to RNY patients, who tend to grow back absorptive villi in their bypassed intestines and stretch their small stomachs after about 18 months. My understanding is there is no window of opportunity for weight loss with the band, although weight loss does slow down the closer you get to goal. Don't panic! At 5 years post op, lap band patients and gastric bypass patients have the same weight loss. Ours takes longer, but the band is always there to help even if your efforts slack off for a while.

Happy New Year!

Thank you! I appreciate your words of wisdom. After failing so many diets before, I don't want my band to be added to my long list of weight loss failures. I desperately want to reach my goal.

Change your statement from "I desperately want to reach my goal" to, "I am going to reach my goal" and then do what it takes to reach it.

Bada Bing, Bada Boom--you goal will be reached!

Happy New Year. I'm off to find the January thread, I'm sure it's out there.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
